Karin's father spoke Swedish to her from the start, but was usually not home during the day. As a young infant Karin was very happy to have her father come home after work and play with her. At around age 4 months, something changed. As usual, Karin would be in her mother's arms when father came home, and mother spoke to her husband in Swedish. But for a few weeks, Karin did not immediately show her usual joy at her father's homecoming.
