A centenary of business operations is an important
anniversary. In its long tradition,
Továrna
merii
Kovi¬
ne
has gained rich experience in the production of
measuring tools which are today used primarily in
the building industry.
The first steps of the company were seen in the year
1904
when the production of wooden folding rules
was started. Its third owner, Ivan
Mikolič,
expanded
the programme and introduced a mass producti¬
on of wooden folding rules, spirit levels
-
vials and
other products. When the company celebrated its
50th anniversary in
1954,
it had already witnessed
a line of success.
Tovama meril Kovine
was transformed into a joint-
stock company in
1996.
The export of the company represented already
70
%
of its total income after the year
1990.
Managementteam
set a firm business policy which
was strongly supported by every individual in the
company who each earned his/her own share in
the success of the company. Our costs were cut
down by more than
10 %.
Major efforts were put
into the marketing and organisation of our sales
network which was growing and getting stronger
each year. We all did our best to make this aim hap¬
pen. Customers did not come to us by themselves.
Our people had to travel through a large part of Eu¬
rope to win new customers. The firstthree major cu¬
stomers were soon joined by others. We won them
with products of high quality. We had to fight with
a lot of opposition and market limitation attempts,
even from some of our standard customers. I have
to admit that we went through numerous stressful
situations in our business negotiations. We were
all fighting for larger market shares. In spite of all
that, we succeeded.
Today, we have a modern market-oriented joint-
stock company with a concentrated internal majo¬
rity ownership.
We export
88%
of our products. By exporting into
39
countries we managed to get a high level of
market security. Over
130
customers abroad and
about
100
Slovenian customers confirm ourfavou-
rable market covering.

Our production of spirit levels covers about
10%
of European market demands which places us
among the four largest producers; of these pro¬
ducts in Europe. With own technology and produc¬
tion of measuring elements

plexiglass vials for
spirit levels and screeding levels, we are still one
step ahead of our competitors.
To meet high requirements of the European metrolo-
gical standards, our production is computer aided
which ensures fulfilling the highest standards,
In the last three years, we have rearranged and
modernised the whole business facility, improved
working conditions, enlarged warehouses for pro¬
ducts and input materials. Some of pur production
halls were extended and new products developed.

The globalisation process requires high-quality
products which we are able to produce to compete
with producers from the Eastern countries. Being
successful in business means that its manage¬
ment and all employees can respond and adjust
quickly to customers demands, conduct fair bu¬
siness relations with customers. All this keeps us
on top.
The company was certified with ISO
9001:1994
in
2000.
In
2003,
when we were audited for the new
standard ISO
2001
:2000. This proves our excel¬
lence in business and our ability for a total quality
control in business process. Our quality products
are known for their long life. Business results in our
company have been favourable.
We are going to invest into a higher level of produc¬
tion automation to keep our competitive position
also in future. Education and training of our people
are one of our primary goals. Namely, the quality
