Zusammenfassung: | American schools of education get little respect. They are portrayed as intellectual wastelands, as impractical and irrelevant, as the root cause of bad teaching and inadequate learning. In this book a sociologist and historian of education examines the historical developments and contemporary factors that have resulted in the unenviable status of ed schools, offering valuable insights into the problems of these beleaguered institutions. David F. Labaree explains how the poor reputation of the ed school has had important repercussions, shaping the quality of its programmes, its recruitment, and the public response to the knowledge it offers. He notes the special problems faced by ed schools as they prepare teachers and produce research and researchers. And he looks at the consequences of the ed school's attachment to educational progressivism. Throughout these discussions, Labaree maintains an ambivalent position about education schools, admiring their dedication and critiquing their mediocrity, their romantic rhetoric, and their compliant attitudes. |

He notes the special problems faced by ed schools as they prepare teachers and produce research and researchers. And he looks at the consequences of the ed school's attachment to educational progressivism. Throughout these discussions, Labaree maintains an ambivalent position about education schools, admiring their dedication and critiquing their mediocrity, their romantic rhetoric, and their compliant attitudes.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Print version record.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Teachers colleges</subfield><subfield code="z">United States.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Teachers</subfield><subfield code="x">Training of</subfield><subfield code="z">United States.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85133001</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Teacher educators</subfield><subfield code="z">United States.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Écoles normales</subfield><subfield code="z">États-Unis.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Enseignants</subfield><subfield code="x">Formation</subfield><subfield code="z">États-Unis.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Professeurs de sciences de l'éducation</subfield><subfield code="z">États-Unis.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">EDUCATION</subfield><subfield code="x">Research.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Teacher educators</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Teachers colleges</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Teachers</subfield><subfield code="x">Training of</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">United States</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJtxgQXMWqmjMjjwXRHgrq</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Lehrerbildung</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Pädagogische Hochschule</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/4044310-3</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">USA</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">École normale.</subfield><subfield code="2">rasuqam</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Enseignant.</subfield><subfield code="2">rasuqam</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Formation des enseignants.</subfield><subfield code="2">rasuqam</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Sciences de l'éducation.</subfield><subfield code="2">rasuqam</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">États-Unis.</subfield><subfield code="2">rasuqam</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">The trouble with ed schools (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCH9mJ7GwdRMRM36QHjDHyb</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Labaree, David F., 1947-</subfield><subfield code="t">Trouble with ed schools.</subfield><subfield code="d">New Haven : Yale University Press, ©2004</subfield><subfield code="z">0300103506</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2004001184</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)54103799</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EDU</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EDU</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=187719</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Internet Archive</subfield><subfield code="b">INAR</subfield><subfield code="n">troublewithedsch0000laba</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL - Introduction, the lowly status of the ed school -- Teacher ed in the past : the roots of its lowly status -- Teacher ed in the present : the peculiar problems of preparing teachers -- The peculiar problems of doing educational research -- The peculiar problems of preparing educational researchers -- Status dilemmas of education professors -- The ed school's romance with progressivism -- The trouble with ed schools : little harm, little help. American schools of education get little respect.
