Zusammenfassung: | "Among the many challenges that global liberalization has posed for trade unions, the growth of precarious immigrant workforces lacking any collective representation stands out as both a major threat to solidarity and an organizing opportunity. Believing that collective action is critical in the struggle to lift the low wages and working conditions of immigrant workers, the contributors to Mobilizing against Inequality set out to study union strategies toward immigrant workers in four countries: Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and United States. Their research revealed both formidable challenges and inspiring examples of immigrant mobilization that often took shape as innovative social countermovements. Using case studies from a carwash organizing campaign in the United States, a sans papiers movement in France, Justice for Cleaners in the United Kingdom, andintegration approaches by the Metalworkers Union in Germany, among others, the authors look at the strategies of unions toward immigrants from a comparative perspective. Although organizers face a different set of obstacles in each country, this book points to common strategies that offer promise for a more dynamic model of unionism is the global North. The editors have also created a companion website for the book, which features literature reviews, full case studies, updates, and links to related publications."--EBook Central |

The editors have also created a companion website for the book, which features literature reviews, full case studies, updates, and links to related publications."--EBook Central</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">In English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Foreign workers</subfield><subfield code="x">Labor unions</subfield><subfield code="x">Organizing</subfield><subfield code="v">Case studies.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Minority labor union members</subfield><subfield code="v">Case studies.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Labor movement</subfield><subfield code="v">Case studies.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Syndiqués issus des minorités</subfield><subfield code="v">Études de cas.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Mouvement ouvrier</subfield><subfield code="v">Études de cas.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Travailleurs étrangers</subfield><subfield code="x">Syndicalisation</subfield><subfield code="v">Études de cas.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">BUSINESS & ECONOMICS</subfield><subfield code="x">Labor.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">POLITICAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Labor & Industrial Relations.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Foreign workers</subfield><subfield code="x">Labor unions</subfield><subfield code="x">Organizing</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Labor movement</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Minority labor union members</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Case studies</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Adler, Lee H.,</subfield><subfield code="e">editor.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Tapia, Maite,</subfield><subfield code="d">1981-</subfield><subfield code="e">editor.</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCjrxywdXPTFf6G3r6GW79C</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2013127288</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Turner, Lowell,</subfield><subfield code="e">editor.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2="2"><subfield code="i">Contains (work):</subfield><subfield code="a">Tapia, Maite,</subfield><subfield code="d">1981-</subfield><subfield code="t">Union campaigns as countermovements.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Mobilizing against inequality (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCG8tJrRb6Jg4yMqqdtjJMq</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="t">Mobilizing against inequality.</subfield><subfield code="d">Ithaca : ILR Press, an imprint of Cornell University Press, 2014</subfield><subfield code="z">9780801452796</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2013045579</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Frank W. Cornfield. Print version record. "Among the many challenges that global liberalization has posed for trade unions, the growth of precarious immigrant workforces lacking any collective representation stands out as both a major threat to solidarity and an organizing opportunity. The editors have also created a companion website for the book, which features literature reviews, full case studies, updates, and links to related publications."--EBook Central In English.
