Zusammenfassung: | "Money is a promise with future benefits or dangers that can never, because unknowable, be calculated. The financial sector is driven to beat this uncertainty by speculating on whether prices will rise or fall. No matter how often the folly of this behaviour is demonstrated through crisis after crisis, this attempt to defeat uncertainty persists. Yet uncertainty is unavoidable. Squeezed in one place, it emerges in another. Based on extensive interviews with leading actors in the financial markets, this book argues that the only way to face uncertainty is with emotions and values. It presents an original explanation of how booms and busts arise from internal disputes over trust between financial corporations. Just as the first edition warned prophetically of the dangers of excessive faith in the rationality of financial market behaviour, this new edition provides a sociological explanation of how this contributed to the recent financial crisis"-- |

Just as the first edition warned prophetically of the dangers of excessive faith in the rationality of financial market behaviour, this new edition provides a sociological explanation of how this contributed to the recent financial crisis"--</subfield><subfield code="c">Provided by publisher</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Print version record.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="504" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Includes bibliographical references and index.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="505" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Modern money, modern conflicts -- Corporate suspicion in the kingdom of rationality -- Financial press as trust agencies -- Required distrust and the onus of a bonus -- Managing credibility in central banks -- Hierarchies of distrust from trust to bust -- Overwhelmed by numbers -- The time-utopia in finance -- Taming the god of opportunism.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Finance</subfield><subfield code="x">Psychological aspects.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Trust</subfield><subfield code="x">Economic aspects.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Uncertainty.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85139563</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Economic forecasting</subfield><subfield code="x">Psychological aspects.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Risk assessment</subfield><subfield code="x">Psychological aspects.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Risk management.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85114200</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Risk Management</subfield><subfield code="0">https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D012308</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Finances</subfield><subfield code="x">Aspect psychologique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Confiance</subfield><subfield code="x">Aspect économique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Incertitude.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Prévision économique</subfield><subfield code="x">Aspect psychologique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Évaluation du risque</subfield><subfield code="x">Aspect psychologique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Gestion du risque.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">risk management.</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">SOCIAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Sociology</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">BUSINESS & ECONOMICS</subfield><subfield code="x">Finance.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Crise financière.</subfield><subfield code="2">eclas</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">economic forecasting.</subfield><subfield code="2">eurovocen</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Finance</subfield><subfield code="x">Psychological aspects</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Risk management</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Uncertainty</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Emotions in finance (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCFRXkF3b8tXVyqHx9WFFXb</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Pixley, Jocelyn, 1947-</subfield><subfield code="t">Emotions in finance.</subfield><subfield code="b">2nd ed.</subfield><subfield code="d">Cambridge ; Cambridge ; New York : Cambridge University Press, 2012. 1 online resource text txt rdacontent computer c rdamedia online resource cr rdacarrier data file Finance professional collection "Money is a promise with future benefits or dangers that can never, because unknowable, be calculated. Just as the first edition warned prophetically of the dangers of excessive faith in the rationality of financial market behaviour, this new edition provides a sociological explanation of how this contributed to the recent financial crisis"-- Provided by publisher Print version record.
