Zusammenfassung: | Becoming Creole explores how people become who they are through their relationships with the natural world, and it shows how those relationships are also always embedded in processes of racialization that create blackness, brownness, and whiteness. Taking the reader into the lived experience of Afro-Caribbean people who call the watery lowlands of Belize home, Melissa A. Johnson traces Belizean Creole peoples' relationships with the plants, animals, water, and soils around them, and analyzes how these relationships intersect with transnational racial assemblages. She provides a sustained analysis of how processes of racialization are always present in the entanglements between people and the non-human worlds in which they live. -- Provided by publisher |

-- Provided by publisher</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Print version record.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">In English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Ethnology</subfield><subfield code="z">Belize.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Racially mixed people</subfield><subfield code="z">Belize.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Ethnologie</subfield><subfield code="z">Belize.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">SOCIAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Ethnology</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Racially mixed people</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Belize</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJxCyJFYt8gQwTvFt3XDbd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Natur</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/4041358-5</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Identität</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/4026482-8</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Belize</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/4005412-3</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Becoming Creole (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCFVxwcGdJ3DhyXvKbWFPDC</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Johnson, Melissa A., 1962-</subfield><subfield code="t">Becoming Creole.</subfield><subfield code="d">New Brunswick, New Jersey : Rutgers University Press, [2019]</subfield><subfield code="z">9780813596990</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2017060242</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)1021062008</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Critical Caribbean studies.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2015129185</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=1734296</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Askews and Holts Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">ASKH</subfield><subfield code="n">AH40528776</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">De Gruyter</subfield><subfield code="b">DEGR</subfield><subfield code="n">9780813597027</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ProQuest Ebook Central</subfield><subfield code="b">EBLB</subfield><subfield code="n">EBL5962967</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBSCOhost</subfield><subfield code="b">EBSC</subfield><subfield code="n">1734296</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Project MUSE</subfield><subfield code="b">MUSE</subfield><subfield code="n">muse67761</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">300913628</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="994" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">92</subfield><subfield code="b">GEBAY</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="049" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DE-863</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |

Johnson. New Brunswick, New Jersey : Rutgers University Press, [2019] ©2019 1 online resource (xi, 229 pages) : illustrations, maps text txt rdacontent computer c rdamedia online resource cr rdacarrier text file Critical Caribbean studies Includes bibliographical references and index. Introduction: becoming Creole -- Hewers of wood : histories of nature, race and becoming -- Bush: racing the more than human -- Living in a powerful world -- Entangling the more than human : becoming Creole -- Wildlife conservation, nature tourism and Creole becomings -- Transnational becomings : from deer sausage to tilapia -- Conclusion: livity and (human) being -- Appendix: Kriol words and phrases used in text. Becoming Creole explores how people become who they are through their relationships with the natural world, and it shows how those relationships are also always embedded in processes of racialization that create blackness, brownness, and whiteness. -- Provided by publisher Print version record.
