Zusammenfassung: | "Drawing on 260 interviews with Tutsi survivors of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, this book examines the experience of orphans and widows, both during the 100 days of the genocide and later in their struggle to deal with trauma and the effort to rebuild their lives. Based on oral history testimony, issues related to healing, forgiveness, reconciliation, and justice are addressed in separate chapters-drawing directly on the experience and perceptions of survivors. The essence of genocide, argue the authors, is a rupture in the moral values that structure everyday life. Therefore, trauma must be addressed at both a personal and societal level, rebuilding structures of trust, compassion, and empathy within a political context that is safe, secure, and just. The contribution of this book is that it examines genocide holistically, describing patterns of discrimination before the genocide, political dynamics during the civil war, patterns of killing, including rape and sexual violence, and the attempt to regain one's humanity after the genocide"-- |

Therefore, trauma must be addressed at both a personal and societal level, rebuilding structures of trust, compassion, and empathy within a political context that is safe, secure, and just. The contribution of this book is that it examines genocide holistically, describing patterns of discrimination before the genocide, political dynamics during the civil war, patterns of killing, including rape and sexual violence, and the attempt to regain one's humanity after the genocide"--</subfield><subfield code="c">Provided by publisher</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">In English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Genocide survivors</subfield><subfield code="z">Rwanda</subfield><subfield code="x">Psychological aspects.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Tutsi (African people)</subfield><subfield code="x">Crimes against</subfield><subfield code="z">Rwanda</subfield><subfield code="x">Psychological aspects.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Widows</subfield><subfield code="z">Rwanda</subfield><subfield code="x">History</subfield><subfield code="y">20th century.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Children and genocide</subfield><subfield code="z">Rwanda</subfield><subfield code="x">History</subfield><subfield code="y">20th century.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Rwanda</subfield><subfield code="x">History</subfield><subfield code="y">Civil War, 1994.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh95000214</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Survivants de génocides</subfield><subfield code="z">Rwanda</subfield><subfield code="x">Aspect psychologique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Tutsi (Peuple d'Afrique)</subfield><subfield code="x">Crimes contre</subfield><subfield code="z">Rwanda</subfield><subfield code="x">Aspect psychologique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Veuves</subfield><subfield code="z">Rwanda</subfield><subfield code="x">Histoire</subfield><subfield code="y">20e siècle.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Enfants et génocide</subfield><subfield code="z">Rwanda</subfield><subfield code="x">Histoire</subfield><subfield code="y">20e siècle.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Rwanda</subfield><subfield code="x">Histoire</subfield><subfield code="y">1994 (Guerre civile)</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">SOCIAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Sociology</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Children and genocide</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Widows</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Rwanda</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJdgVmVrPYvMBJRRWKFYfq</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="647" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Rwandan Civil War</subfield><subfield code="c">(Rwanda :</subfield><subfield code="d">1994)</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39Qhp4vBbd6t8yxJG4d7WMpQy</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="648" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">1900-1999</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">History</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Miller, Lorna Touryan</subfield><subfield code="e">contributor</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Miller, Arpi Misha,</subfield><subfield code="d">1976-</subfield><subfield code="e">contributor.</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCjGTYM4qXYRXdYxMWgPDG3</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2019100379</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Becoming human again (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCFH4TrYq7gwKw4dRwG9WCP</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Miller, Donald E. Miller, with Lorna Touryan Miller and Arpi Misha Miller Oakland, California University of California Press [2020] 1 online resource (xv, 248 pages) text txt rdacontent computer c rdamedia online resource cr rdacarrier text file Print version record Includes bibliographical references and index Encountering the genocide -- How did it happen? -- Orphan memories -- The experience of women -- Coping after genocide -- Trauma as moral rupture -- A holistic model of healing -- Forgiveness -- Reconciliation and justice -- Becoming human again "Drawing on 260 interviews with Tutsi survivors of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, this book examines the experience of orphans and widows, both during the 100 days of the genocide and later in their struggle to deal with trauma and the effort to rebuild their lives. The contribution of this book is that it examines genocide holistically, describing patterns of discrimination before the genocide, political dynamics during the civil war, patterns of killing, including rape and sexual violence, and the attempt to regain one's humanity after the genocide"-- Provided by publisher In English.
