Zusammenfassung: | "Investigating the 2016 EU Referendum in the UK, [this book] explores the ways in which 'Brexit' campaigners utilised language more persuasively than their 'Remain' counterparts. Drawing parallels with effective political discourse used worldwide, this book highlights the linguistic features of an increasingly popular style of political campaigning. Concentrating on the highly successful and emotive linguistic strategies employed by the Brexit campaigners against the comparatively lacklustre remain camp, [the author] makes a case for the contribution of language towards the narrow 52-48% Brexit victory. Using primary examples, what emerges is how urging people to have the courage to make a bid for freedom naturally invokes more grandiloquent language, powerful metaphors and rousing partisan tone than a campaign which, on balance, argues that it's best to simply stick with the status quo. Examining the huge amount of discourse generated before, during and since the June 2016 EU Referendum, [this book] looks into the role language played in the democratic process and the influence and impact it had on electors, leading to an unexpected result and uncertain future."-- |

Examining the huge amount of discourse generated before, during and since the June 2016 EU Referendum, [this book] looks into the role language played in the democratic process and the influence and impact it had on electors, leading to an unexpected result and uncertain future."--</subfield><subfield code="c">Provided by publisher</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="610" ind1="2" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">European Union</subfield><subfield code="z">Great Britain.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2017003454</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="610" ind1="2" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">European Union</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Rhetoric</subfield><subfield code="x">Political aspects</subfield><subfield code="z">Great Britain.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Communication in politics</subfield><subfield code="z">Great Britain.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Referendum</subfield><subfield code="z">Great Britain</subfield><subfield code="x">History</subfield><subfield code="y">21st century.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Discours politique</subfield><subfield code="z">Grande-Bretagne.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Communication politique</subfield><subfield code="z">Grande-Bretagne.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Référendum</subfield><subfield code="z">Grande-Bretagne</subfield><subfield code="x">Histoire</subfield><subfield code="y">21e siècle.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Politics & government.</subfield><subfield code="2">bicssc</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Discourse analysis.</subfield><subfield code="2">bicssc</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">LAW</subfield><subfield code="x">International.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Communication in politics</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Referendum</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Rhetoric</subfield><subfield code="x">Political aspects</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Great Britain</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="648" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">2000-2099</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">History</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">The language of Brexit (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCFGQVvtggCwFdFFmRxkvH3</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Buckledee, Steve.</subfield><subfield code="t">Language of Brexit.</subfield><subfield code="d">London, UK ; "Investigating the 2016 EU Referendum in the UK, [this book] explores the ways in which 'Brexit' campaigners utilised language more persuasively than their 'Remain' counterparts.
