Zusammenfassung: | Twenty-first century film and television is overwhelmed with images of the undead. Vampires and zombies have often been seen as oppositional: one alluring, the other repellant; one seductive, the other infectious. With case studies of films like I Am Legend and 28 Days Later, as well as TV programmes like Angel and The Walking Dead, this book challenges these popular assumptions and reveals the increasing interconnection of undead genres. Exploring how the figure of the vampire has been infused with the language of science, disease and apocalypse, while the zombie text has increasingly been influenced by the trope of the 'reluctant' vampire, Stacey Abbott shows how both archetypes are actually two sides of the same undead coin. When considered together they present a dystopian, sometimes apocalyptic, vision of twenty-first century existence. Explores the intersection of the vampire and zombie with 21st Century dystopian and post-apocalyptic cinema. Twenty-first century film and television is overwhelmed with images of the undead. Rather than seeing them as separate or oppositional, this book explores the intersection and dialogue between the vampire and zombie across film and television Much contemporary scholarship on the vampire focuses on Dark Romance, while this book explores the more horror-based end of the genre Offers a detailed discussion of the development of zombie television Provides a detailed examination of Richard Matheson's I Am Legend, including the novel, the script, the adaptations and the BBFC's response to Matheson's script |

Rather than seeing them as separate or oppositional, this book explores the intersection and dialogue between the vampire and zombie across film and television Much contemporary scholarship on the vampire focuses on Dark Romance, while this book explores the more horror-based end of the genre Offers a detailed discussion of the development of zombie television Provides a detailed examination of Richard Matheson's I Am Legend, including the novel, the script, the adaptations and the BBFC's response to Matheson's script</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Description based on online resource; title from digital title page (viewed on August 21, 2020).</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Vampire films</subfield><subfield code="y">21st century</subfield><subfield code="x">History and criticism.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Vampires on television</subfield><subfield code="y">21st century</subfield><subfield code="x">History and criticism.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Zombie films</subfield><subfield code="y">21st century</subfield><subfield code="x">History and criticism.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Vampires à la télévision</subfield><subfield code="y">21e siècle</subfield><subfield code="x">Histoire et critique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Films de zombies</subfield><subfield code="y">21e siècle</subfield><subfield code="x">Histoire et critique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">PERFORMING ARTS</subfield><subfield code="x">Reference.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Vampire films</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Vampires on television</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Zombie films</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="648" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">2000-2099</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Electronic books.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Criticism, interpretation, etc.</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Undead apocalypse (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCG9Y9xydyRFwKR7qjyTm3P</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Abbott, Stacey.</subfield><subfield code="t">Undead apocalypse.</subfield><subfield code="d">Edinburgh : Edinburgh University Press, 2016</subfield><subfield code="z">9780748694907</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)945354529</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=1584975</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL - Ebook Library</subfield><subfield code="b">EBLB</subfield><subfield code="n">EBL5013847</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBSCOhost</subfield><subfield code="b">EBSC</subfield><subfield code="n">1584975</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">13954060</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">14788720</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">13833353</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ProQuest MyiLibrary Digital eBook Collection</subfield><subfield code="b">IDEB</subfield><subfield code="n">cis36495858</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="994" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">92</subfield><subfield code="b">GEBAY</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="049" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DE-863</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |

Edinburgh : Edinburgh University Press, [2016] 1 online resource (ix, 225 pages) : color illustrations text txt rdacontent computer c rdamedia online resource cr rdacarrier data file rda Includes bibliographical references and index. Introduction "Needing to Know the Plural of Apocalypse" -- The Legacy of Richard Matheson's I Am Legend -- "Cancer with a Purpose": Putting the Vampire Under the Microscope -- The Cinematic Rising: The Resurgence of the Zombie -- A Very Slow Apocalypse: Zombie TV -- The Hybrid Hero -- "Be Me": I-Vampire/I-Zombie -- How to Survive a Vampire Apocalypse: Or, What to Do When the Vampires are Us -- Afterword They Walk Among Us: Vampires and Zombies in Popular Culture. Twenty-first century film and television is overwhelmed with images of the undead.
