Zusammenfassung: | The past three decades have been characterized by vast change and crises in global financial markets and not in politically unstable countries but in the heart of the developed world, from the Great Recession in the United States to the banking crises in Japan and the Eurozone. As we try to make sense of what caused these crises and how we might reduce risk factors and prevent recurrence, the fields of finance and economics have also seen vast change, as scholars and researchers have advanced their thinking to better respond to the recent crises. A momentous collection of the best recent scholarship, "After the Flood" illustrates both the scope of the crises' impact on our understanding of global financial markets and the innovative processes whereby scholars have adapted their research to gain a greater understanding of them. Among the contributors are Jose Scheinkman and Lars Peter Hansen, who bring up to date decades of collaborative research on the mechanisms that tie financial markets to the broader economy; Patrick Bolton, who argues that limiting bankers' pay may be more effective than limiting the activities they can undertake; Edward Glaeser and Bruce Sacerdote, who study the social dynamics of markets; and E. Glen Weyl, who argues that economists are influenced by the incentives their consulting opportunities create. |

Glen Weyl, who argues that economists are influenced by the incentives their consulting opportunities create.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Online resource; title from PDF title page (EBSCO, viewed March 27, 2017).</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Financial crises</subfield><subfield code="v">Congresses.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Financial crises</subfield><subfield code="x">Prevention</subfield><subfield code="v">Congresses.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Banks and banking</subfield><subfield code="v">Congresses.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Capital assets pricing model</subfield><subfield code="v">Congresses.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Modèle d'évaluation des actifs financiers</subfield><subfield code="v">Congrès.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">BUSINESS & ECONOMICS</subfield><subfield code="x">Finance.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Banks and banking</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Capital assets pricing model</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Financial crises</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Financial crises</subfield><subfield code="x">Prevention</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Wirtschaftstheorie</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/4079351-5</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Capital-Asset-Pricing-Modell</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/4121078-5</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Kreditmarkt</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/4073788-3</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Finanzkrise</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/7635855-0</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Congress</subfield><subfield code="0">https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D016423</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">proceedings (reports)</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Conference papers and proceedings</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Conference papers and proceedings.</subfield><subfield code="2">lcgft</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2014026068</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Actes de congrès.</subfield><subfield code="2">rvmgf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Scheinkman, José Alexandre,</subfield><subfield code="e">honouree.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79078490</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Glaeser, Edward L.</subfield><subfield code="q">(Edward Ludwig),</subfield><subfield code="d">1967-</subfield><subfield code="e">editor,</subfield><subfield code="e">author.</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJqBvQRcrfrJDtHrTFpXVC</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no94021204</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Santos, Tano,</subfield><subfield code="e">editor,</subfield><subfield code="e">author.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no99061777</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Weyl, E. How the Great Recession changed economic thought Chicago : The University of Chicago Press, 2017. ©2017 1 online resource (viii, 311 pages) : illustrations text txt rdacontent computer c rdamedia online resource cr rdacarrier Includes papers presented at a conference held at the Columbia Business School in the spring of 2013 in honor of José Scheinkman's 65th birthday. Includes bibliographical references and index. Introduction / Edward L. Glaeser, Tano Santos, and E. Glen Weyl -- Stochastic compounding and uncertain valuation / Lars Peter Hansen and José A. Scheinkman -- The good banker / Patrick Bolton -- How to implement contingent capital / Albert S. Kyle -- Bankruptcy laws and collateral regulation: reflections after the crisis / Aloisio Araujo, Rafael Ferreira, and Bruno Funchal -- Antes del Diluvio: the Spanish banking system in the first decade of the euro / Tano Santos -- Are commodity futures prices barometers of the global economy? / Conghui Hu and Wei Xiong -- Social learning, credulous Bayesians, and aggregation reversals / Edward L. Glaeser and Bruce Sacerdote -- Finance and the common good / E. Glen Weyl. The past three decades have been characterized by vast change and crises in global financial markets and not in politically unstable countries but in the heart of the developed world, from the Great Recession in the United States to the banking crises in Japan and the Eurozone.
