Ernst Boerschmann was the most influential foreign architectural researcher in China in the first half of the twentieth century. This book concerns his three-year research expedition through the Chinese Empire (1906-1909). He was the first Westerner to systematically document China's religious architecture, returning from his travels with thousands of photographs, sketches, and architectural surveys. His six major publications leading up to 1931, described here alongside the reactions they caused, were milestones on the path to formal study of Chinese architectural history, long before Chinese academics themselves began to take interest in the subject in the 1930s. |

His six major publications leading up to 1931, described here alongside the reactions they caused, were milestones on the path to formal study of Chinese architectural history, long before Chinese academics themselves began to take interest in the subject in the 1930s.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Boerschmann, Ernst,</subfield><subfield code="d">1873-1949</subfield><subfield code="x">Criticism and interpretation.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Boerschmann, Ernst,</subfield><subfield code="d">1873-1949</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJB4gfqx4xgv6r7YxFgR8C</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Boerschmann, Ernst</subfield><subfield code="d">1873-1949</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Religious architecture</subfield><subfield code="z">China.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Architecture religieuse</subfield><subfield code="z">Chine.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">ARCHITECTURE / Adaptive Reuse & Renovation.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">ARCHITECTURE / Buildings / Landmarks & Monuments.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">ARCHITECTURE / Professional Practice.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">ARCHITECTURE / Reference.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Religious architecture</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">China</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJcrd4RjtCBk4wfMhTwwG3</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Sakralbau</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/4178936-2</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Forschung</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Forschungsreise</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/4017916-3</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">China</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Criticism, interpretation, etc.</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Boerschmann, Ernst,</subfield><subfield code="d">1873-1949.</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJB4gfqx4xgv6r7YxFgR8C</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n81116808</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">The grand documentation (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCGJjf98wCQJghjCj4XQM8y</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Kögel, Eduard, 1960-</subfield><subfield code="t">Grand documentation.</subfield><subfield code="d">Berlin : De Gruyter, ©2015</subfield><subfield code="z">9783110374940</subfield><subfield code="z">3110374943</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2015472213</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)910839356</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=991983</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">11955317</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBSCOhost</subfield><subfield code="b">EBSC</subfield><subfield code="n">991983</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="994" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">92</subfield><subfield code="b">GEBAY</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="049" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DE-863</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |
