Zusammenfassung: | Given the fact that two-thirds of all intrastate wars since 1945 have included foreign interventions, what drives sovereign states to support non-state conflict parties? In order to understand causes and calculations of this particular type of third party intervention, this book connects some of the most important contemporary debates in international relations, ranging from security cooperation between states and non-state actors to the effects of intervention on both local conflict dynamics and interstate relations. Presenting a new theoretical framework and a multidimensional concept of support (endorsement, hosting, as well as financial and military assistance), this book establishes a systematic path between international as well as domestic incentives and specific types of sponsorship policies. In a subsequent comparative analysis, the author examines conditions and dynamics of Syria's cooperation with Fatah, the Kurdistan Workers' Party, and Hizballah from 1964 to 2006. |

In a subsequent comparative analysis, the author examines conditions and dynamics of Syria's cooperation with Fatah, the Kurdistan Workers' Party, and Hizballah from 1964 to 2006.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">State-sponsored terrorism.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh91004326</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">International relations.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85067435</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Political violence.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh95005727</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Terrorism</subfield><subfield code="x">Government policy.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Violence</subfield><subfield code="x">Government policy.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Terrorisme d'État.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Relations internationales.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Violence politique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Terrorisme</subfield><subfield code="x">Politique gouvernementale.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Violence</subfield><subfield code="x">Politique gouvernementale.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">international relations.</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">terrorism.</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">POLITICAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Essays.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">POLITICAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Government</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">POLITICAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Government</subfield><subfield code="x">National.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">POLITICAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Reference.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">POLITICAL SCIENCE / Terrorism</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">International relations</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Political violence</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">State-sponsored terrorism</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Terrorism</subfield><subfield code="x">Government policy</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Violence</subfield><subfield code="x">Government policy</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Kirchner, Magdalena.</subfield><subfield code="t">Why states rebel.</subfield><subfield code="d">Opladen : Barbara Budrich Publishers, 2016</subfield><subfield code="z">9783847406419</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)951236537</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">International and security studies ;</subfield><subfield code="v">Bd. 2.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2016007328</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=1282734</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBSCOhost</subfield><subfield code="b">EBSC</subfield><subfield code="n">1282734</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="994" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">92</subfield><subfield code="b">GEBAY</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="049" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DE-863</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |
