Zusammenfassung: | Tumuli were the most widespread form of monumental tombs in the ancient world. Their impact on landscape, their allurement as well as their symbolic reference to a glorious past can still be felt today. The need of supra-regional and cross-disciplinary examination of this unique phenomenon led to an international conference in Istanbul in 2009. With almost 50 scholars from 12 different countries participating, the conference entitled TumulIstanbul created links between fields of research which would not have had the opportunity to meet otherwise. The proceedings of TumulIstanbul revolve around the question of the symbolic significance of burial mounds in the 1st millennium BC in the Eastern Mediterranean and Black-Sea regions, providing further insight into Kurgan neighbours from Eurasia. |

The proceedings of TumulIstanbul revolve around the question of the symbolic significance of burial mounds in the 1st millennium BC in the Eastern Mediterranean and Black-Sea regions, providing further insight into Kurgan neighbours from Eurasia.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">In English, with 2 papers in German and 1 in French; abstracts in English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Mounds</subfield><subfield code="z">Middle East</subfield><subfield code="v">Congresses.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Middle East</subfield><subfield code="x">Antiquities</subfield><subfield code="v">Congresses.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Mounds</subfield><subfield code="z">Black Sea Region</subfield><subfield code="v">Congresses.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Black Sea Region</subfield><subfield code="x">Antiquities</subfield><subfield code="v">Congresses.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Moyen-Orient</subfield><subfield code="x">Antiquités</subfield><subfield code="v">Congrès.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">HISTORY</subfield><subfield code="x">Ancient</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Antiquities</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Mounds</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Black Sea Region</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Middle East</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Conference papers and proceedings</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Henry, Olivier</subfield><subfield code="c">(Archaeologist),</subfield><subfield code="e">editor.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2013074725</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Kelp, Ute,</subfield><subfield code="d">1975-</subfield><subfield code="e">editor.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">TumulIstanbul. Tumuli were the most widespread form of monumental tombs in the ancient world.
