Zusammenfassung: | "Looking Back on the Vietnam War reflects on the half-century since the 1965 U.S. escalation of conflict in Viet Nam, asking what, how, and why we know about the Vietnam War. While the war in all of its complexities is written about from a number of disciplinary perspectives, those dominant narratives often tell a limited story, one often told in isolation from other disciplinary perspectives. Looking Back suggests we take stock of the stories absent from dominant narratives of the War, and that we do that stock-taking through the lenses of multiple disciplines and perspectives. Based on the idea that Vietnamese stories, both those set in the postwar Viet Nam and also in the Vietnamese diaspora, are crucial to understanding the Vietnam War, this volume brings together essays examining Vietnamese and diasporic conditions with those examining U.S. traces of the War. Looking Back also attends to the significance of the present in the act of recollecting as it reflects on the war's echoes in the current era of endless U.S. warring. The volume engages in a dual looking back--both in the sense of remembering and of reconsidering--to offer a fuller picture of the Vietnam War by showing the perspectives of groups and issues that have largely escaped serious attention in popular narratives of the war"-- |

The volume engages in a dual looking back--both in the sense of remembering and of reconsidering--to offer a fuller picture of the Vietnam War by showing the perspectives of groups and issues that have largely escaped serious attention in popular narratives of the war"--</subfield><subfield code="c">Provided by publisher.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="504" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Includes bibliographical references and index.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Online resource; title from digital title page (viewed on June 03, 2016).</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Vietnam War, 1961-1975.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85143277</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Vietnam War, 1961-1975</subfield><subfield code="x">Peace.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Vietnam Conflict</subfield><subfield code="0">https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D047829</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Guerre du Viêt-nam, 1961-1975.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Guerre du Viêt-nam, 1961-1975</subfield><subfield code="x">Paix.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">HISTORY</subfield><subfield code="z">United States</subfield><subfield code="y">20th Century.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">HISTORY</subfield><subfield code="z">Asia</subfield><subfield code="z">Southeast Asia.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Peace</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="647" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Vietnam War</subfield><subfield code="d">(1961-1975)</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="648" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">1961-1975</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Boyle, Brenda M.,</subfield><subfield code="d">1957-</subfield><subfield code="e">editor.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n2009043735</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Lim, Jeehyun,</subfield><subfield code="d">1976-</subfield><subfield code="e">editor.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2015139824</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Looking back on the Vietnam War (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCGhC8jtmFdYfCYbfrhB773</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="t">Looking back on the Vietnam War.</subfield><subfield code="d">New Brunswick, New Jersey : Rutgers University Press, 2016</subfield><subfield code="z">9780813579948</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2015041070</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">War culture.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2015014758</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=1239862</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Baker and Taylor</subfield><subfield code="b">BTCP</subfield><subfield code="n">BK0018015984</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Coutts Information Services</subfield><subfield code="b">COUT</subfield><subfield code="n">32994845</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">De Gruyter</subfield><subfield code="b">DEGR</subfield><subfield code="n">9780813579962</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL - Schlund-Vials -- Naturalizing war: the stories we tell about the Vietnam War / Brenda M. Boyle. "Looking Back on the Vietnam War reflects on the half-century since the 1965 U.S. escalation of conflict in Viet Nam, asking what, how, and why we know about the Vietnam War. Looking Back also attends to the significance of the present in the act of recollecting as it reflects on the war's echoes in the current era of endless U.S. warring. The volume engages in a dual looking back--both in the sense of remembering and of reconsidering--to offer a fuller picture of the Vietnam War by showing the perspectives of groups and issues that have largely escaped serious attention in popular narratives of the war"-- Provided by publisher.
