Zusammenfassung: | The 2007 to 2009 financial crisis resulted in the re-emergence of the debate on financial regulation and its relationships with other macroeconomic policies, particularly monetary policy. In Europe, the financial crisis was followed by the sovereign debt crisis, as the bail-out of the financial sector put strains on public finances in several countries. The sequence of events called for a strengthening of the union, ranging from a common framework for supervisory policy that could minimize the risk of unforeseen bank or country defaults to a common resolution mechanism that could set equal rules across countries and reduce ex-ante mis-incentives to risk-taking and moral hazard. This analysis of the state of and prospects for financial regulation examines the lending and saving behavior of banks and households as well as their borrowing activities in order to understand the conflicting priorities and complicated decisions involved in the development and implementation of financial legislation. |

This analysis of the state of and prospects for financial regulation examines the lending and saving behavior of banks and households as well as their borrowing activities in order to understand the conflicting priorities and complicated decisions involved in the development and implementation of financial legislation.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Finance</subfield><subfield code="x">Government policy</subfield><subfield code="z">Europe.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Monetary policy</subfield><subfield code="z">Europe.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Financial institutions</subfield><subfield code="x">Law and legislation</subfield><subfield code="z">Europe.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Financial institutions</subfield><subfield code="x">Government policy</subfield><subfield code="z">Europe.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Financial crises</subfield><subfield code="z">Europe</subfield><subfield code="x">Prevention.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Finances</subfield><subfield code="x">Politique gouvernementale</subfield><subfield code="z">Europe.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Politique monétaire</subfield><subfield code="z">Europe.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Institutions financières</subfield><subfield code="x">Politique gouvernementale</subfield><subfield code="z">Europe.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">BUSINESS & ECONOMICS</subfield><subfield code="x">Finance.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Finance</subfield><subfield code="x">Government policy</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Financial crises</subfield><subfield code="x">Prevention</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Financial institutions</subfield><subfield code="x">Government policy</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Financial institutions</subfield><subfield code="x">Law and legislation</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Monetary policy</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Europe</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJxCxPbbk4CPJDQJb4r6rq</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Electronic books.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Electronic books.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Faia, Ester,</subfield><subfield code="e">editor.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/nr2004022964</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Hackethal, Andreas,</subfield><subfield code="d">1971-</subfield><subfield code="e">editor.</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJB4fX6MVcTY8h9PV4fTHC</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n2001096253</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Haliassos, Michael,</subfield><subfield code="e">editor.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no93008438</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Langenbucher, Katja,</subfield><subfield code="e">editor.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/nr2002035178</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Financial regulation (Faia, Hackethal, Haliassos, Langenbucher) (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCGY8X3G3HCPGCFvTG7cPry</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Financial regulation (Faia, Hackethal, Haliassos, Langenbucher).</subfield><subfield code="t">Financial regulation.</subfield><subfield code="d">Cambridge, United Kingdom ; The 2007 to 2009 financial crisis resulted in the re-emergence of the debate on financial regulation and its relationships with other macroeconomic policies, particularly monetary policy.
