Zusammenfassung: | In a time of national introspection regarding the country's involvement in the persecution of Jews, Poland has begun to reimagine spaces of and for Jewishness in the Polish landscape, not as a form of nostalgia but as a way to encourage the pluralization of contemporary society. The essays in this book explore issues of the restoration, restitution, memorializing, and tourism that have brought present inhabitants into contact with initiatives to revive Jewish sites. They reveal that an emergent Jewish presence in both urban and rural landscapes exists in conflict and collaboration with other remembered minorities, engaging in complex negotiations with local, regional, national, and international groups and interests. With its emphasis on spaces and built environments, this volume illuminates the role of the material world in the complex encounter with the Jewish past in contemporary Poland. |

With its emphasis on spaces and built environments, this volume illuminates the role of the material world in the complex encounter with the Jewish past in contemporary Poland.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Print version record.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Memorialization</subfield><subfield code="z">Poland.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Collective memory and city planning</subfield><subfield code="z">Poland.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Jews</subfield><subfield code="z">Poland</subfield><subfield code="x">Social life and customs.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Jews</subfield><subfield code="z">Poland</subfield><subfield code="x">Social conditions.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Juifs</subfield><subfield code="z">Pologne</subfield><subfield code="x">Conditions sociales.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Juifs</subfield><subfield code="z">Pologne</subfield><subfield code="x">Murs et coutumes.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Mémoire collective et urbanisme</subfield><subfield code="z">Pologne.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Commémorations</subfield><subfield code="z">Pologne.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">SOCIAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Discrimination & Race Relations.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">SOCIAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Minority Studies.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Collective memory and city planning</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Jews</subfield><subfield code="x">Social conditions</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Jews</subfield><subfield code="x">Social life and customs</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Memorialization</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Poland</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39QbtfRgyP3qcDKmj68x7FVbM</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Meng, Michael,</subfield><subfield code="e">editor.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Lehrer, Erica T.,</subfield><subfield code="e">editor.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Jewish space in contemporary Poland (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCFwYWVCFFHxJbpYYhjTBrq</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="z">9780253015006</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=986252</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">hoopla Digital</subfield><subfield code="b">HOPL</subfield><subfield code="n">MWT14800154</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Recorded Books, LLC</subfield><subfield code="b">RECE</subfield><subfield code="n">rbeEB00776842</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL - In a time of national introspection regarding the country's involvement in the persecution of Jews, Poland has begun to reimagine spaces of and for Jewishness in the Polish landscape, not as a form of nostalgia but as a way to encourage the pluralization of contemporary society. Print version record.
