Zusammenfassung: | How young people think about the moral and ethical dilemmas they encounter when they share and use online content and participate in online communities. "Drawing on extensive interviews with young people between the ages of 10 and 25, James describes the nature of their thinking about privacy, property, and participation online. She identifies three ways that young people approach online activities. A teen might practice self-focused thinking, concerned mostly about consequences for herself; moral thinking, concerned about the consequences for people he knows; or ethical thinking, concerned about unknown individuals and larger communities. James finds, among other things, that youth are often blind to moral or ethical concerns about privacy; that attitudes toward property range from "what's theirs is theirs" to "free for all"; that hostile speech can be met with a belief that online content is "just a joke"; and that adults who are consulted about such dilemmas often emphasize personal safety issues over online ethics and citizenship. Considering ways to address the digital ethics gap, James offers a vision of conscientious connectivity, which involves ethical thinking skills but, perhaps more important, is marked by sensitivity to the dilemmas posed by online life, a motivation to wrestle with them, and a sense of moral agency that supports socially positive online actions."--Publisher's description |

Considering ways to address the digital ethics gap, James offers a vision of conscientious connectivity, which involves ethical thinking skills but, perhaps more important, is marked by sensitivity to the dilemmas posed by online life, a motivation to wrestle with them, and a sense of moral agency that supports socially positive online actions."--Publisher's description</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Internet and youth.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2009030010</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Internet</subfield><subfield code="x">Moral and ethical aspects.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Parental influences.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh90001779</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Internet et jeunesse.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Internet</subfield><subfield code="x">Aspect moral.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Parents</subfield><subfield code="x">Influence.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">COMPUTERS</subfield><subfield code="x">Computer Literacy.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">COMPUTERS</subfield><subfield code="x">Computer Science.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">COMPUTERS</subfield><subfield code="x">Data Processing.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">COMPUTERS</subfield><subfield code="x">Hardware</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">COMPUTERS</subfield><subfield code="x">Information Technology.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">COMPUTERS</subfield><subfield code="x">Machine Theory.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">COMPUTERS</subfield><subfield code="x">Reference.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">SOCIAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Media Studies.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Internet and youth</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Internet</subfield><subfield code="x">Moral and ethical aspects</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Parental influences</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EDUCATION/General</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DIGITAL HUMANITIES & NEW MEDIA/Social Media & Networking</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">PHILOSOPHY/Ethics & Bioethics</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Disconnected (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCGgkrHvjcRPMpvTWYDYbQy</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">James, Carrie.</subfield><subfield code="t">Disconnected</subfield><subfield code="z">9780262028066</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2014003873</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)869881358</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">John D. and Catherine T. How young people think about the moral and ethical dilemmas they encounter when they share and use online content and participate in online communities. Considering ways to address the digital ethics gap, James offers a vision of conscientious connectivity, which involves ethical thinking skills but, perhaps more important, is marked by sensitivity to the dilemmas posed by online life, a motivation to wrestle with them, and a sense of moral agency that supports socially positive online actions."--Publisher's description Internet and youth. http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2009030010 Internet Moral and ethical aspects.
