Zusammenfassung: | In October, 1962, the Cuban missile crisis brought human civilization to the brink of destruction. On the 50 th anniversary of the most dangerous confrontation of the nuclear era, two of the leading experts on the crisis recreate the drama of those tumultuous days as experienced by the leaders of the three countries directly involved: U.S. President John F. Kennedy, Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev, and Cuban President Fidel Castro. Organized around the letters exchanged among the leaders as the crisis developed and augmented with many personal details of the circumstances under which they were written, considered, and received, Blight and Lang poignantly document the rapidly shifting physical and psychological realities faced in Washington, Moscow, and Havana. The result is a revolving stage that allows the reader to experience the Cuban missile crisis as never before-through the eyes of each leader as they move through the crisis. <span style="font-style:italic;">The Armageddon Letters: Kennedy, Khrushchev, Castro in the Cuban Missile Crisis transports the reader back to October 1962, telling a story as gripping as any fictional apocalyptic novel. <br /> |

<br /></subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Cuban Missile Crisis, 1962</subfield><subfield code="v">Drama.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">DRAMA</subfield><subfield code="x">American.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">American literature</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="647" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Cuban Missile Crisis</subfield><subfield code="d">(1962)</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="0">(OCoLC)fst00884799</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39Qhp4vBbd6k6g9wJThW7KvYX</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="648" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">1962</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Drama</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Lang, Janet M.,</subfield><subfield code="d">1948-</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCjxkdCp648xvbbwHB8dXq3</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n2004153429</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">The armageddon letters (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCFMxtykGqjPXCycWH6wfRq</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="t">The armageddon letters</subfield><subfield code="d">Lanham, MD : Rowman & Littlefield Publishers, 2012.</subfield><subfield code="z">9781442216792 (cloth : alk. paper)</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2012026581</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=498981</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">9670601</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ProQuest MyiLibrary Digital eBook Collection</subfield><subfield code="b">IDEB</subfield><subfield code="n">395187</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBSCOhost</subfield><subfield code="b">EBSC</subfield><subfield code="n">498981</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ebrary</subfield><subfield code="b">EBRY</subfield><subfield code="n">ebr10610753</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Coutts Information Services</subfield><subfield code="b">COUT</subfield><subfield code="n">24025018</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Internet Archive</subfield><subfield code="b">INAR</subfield><subfield code="n">armageddonletter0000blig</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="994" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">92</subfield><subfield code="b">GEBAY</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="049" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DE-863</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |

Description based on print version record and CIP data provided by publisher; resource not viewed. Foreword; INTRODUCTION; CAST OF CHARACTERS; PRELUDE; ACT I; ACT II; ACT III; ACT IV; POSTSCRIPT; APPENDIX A; APPENDIX B; Notes; Acknowledgments; Index; About the Authors. In October, 1962, the Cuban missile crisis brought human civilization to the brink of destruction. <br /> Cuban Missile Crisis, 1962 Drama.
