Zusammenfassung: | Germany has been a central player in discussions on the future architecture of Europe, and has been called on to play a larger role in supporting global and, especially, European recovery from the financial crisis that triggered the Great Recession. This book focuses on the possible economic role of Germany and shows that the quantitative effects of a German fiscal stimulus would be small on the heavily indebted euro area periphery countries that most need the boost. The book finds that Germany itself faces a growth challenge and that efforts to raise its own growth potential are important for Germany, and that more rapid growth of domestic demand will more powerfully stimulate European economic growth through its expanded demand for imports. |

play a larger role in supporting global and, especially, European recovery from the financial crisis that triggered the Great Recession. This book focuses on the possible economic role of Germany and shows that the quantitative effects of a German fiscal stimulus would be small on the heavily indebted euro area periphery countries that most need the boost. The book finds that Germany itself faces a growth challenge and that efforts to raise its own growth potential are important for Germany, and that more rapid growth of domestic demand will more powerfully stimulate European economic growth through its expanded demand for imports.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="505" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Tests of German resilience / Fabian Bornhorst and Ashoka Mody -- The crisis's impact on potential growth in Germany : the nature of the shock matters / Martin Schindler -- German productivity growth : an industry perspective / Hélène Poirson -- What does the crisis tell us about the German labor market? / Martin Schindler -- Growth spillover dynamics : from crisis to recovery / Hélène Poirson and Sebastien Weber -- Do fiscal spillovers matter? / Anna Ivanova and Sebastien Weber -- Current account imbalances : can structural policies make a difference? / Anna Ivanova -- Discussion / Malte Hübner.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="504" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Includes bibliographical references and index.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Germany</subfield><subfield code="x">Economic conditions</subfield><subfield code="y">1990-</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh91000418</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Germany</subfield><subfield code="x">Foreign economic relations.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Germany</subfield><subfield code="x">Economic policy</subfield><subfield code="y">1990-</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh91000422</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Economic development</subfield><subfield code="z">Germany.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Financial crises</subfield><subfield code="z">Germany.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Allemagne</subfield><subfield code="x">Conditions économiques</subfield><subfield code="y">1990-</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Allemagne</subfield><subfield code="x">Politique économique</subfield><subfield code="y">1990-</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Développement économique</subfield><subfield code="z">Allemagne.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">BUSINESS & ECONOMICS</subfield><subfield code="x">Economics</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">BUSINESS & ECONOMICS</subfield><subfield code="x">Reference.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Economic development</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Economic history</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Economic policy</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Financial crises</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">International economic relations</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Germany</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJtCD3rcKcPDx6FHmjvrbd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="648" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Since 1990</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Germany in an interconnected world economy (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCGhKXccjw3RYtBFqWg8y8d</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="t">Germany in an interconnected world economy.</subfield><subfield code="d">Washington, D.C., U.S.A. :</subfield><subfield code="b">International Monetary Fund</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)837959233</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=1254415</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL - Germany has been a central player in discussions on the future architecture of Europe, and has been called on to play a larger role in supporting global and, especially, European recovery from the financial crisis that triggered the Great Recession. Tests of German resilience / Fabian Bornhorst and Ashoka Mody -- The crisis's impact on potential growth in Germany : the nature of the shock matters / Martin Schindler -- German productivity growth : an industry perspective / Hélène Poirson -- What does the crisis tell us about the German labor market? / Martin Schindler -- Growth spillover dynamics : from crisis to recovery / Hélène Poirson and Sebastien Weber -- Do fiscal spillovers matter? / Anna Ivanova and Sebastien Weber -- Current account imbalances : can structural policies make a difference? / Anna Ivanova -- Discussion / Malte Hübner.
