Zusammenfassung: | In virtually every aspect of culture - health, marriage, family, morals, politics, sex, race, economics - American men of the past two decades have faced changing social conditions and confronted radical questions about themselves. In this book, the editor collects fourteen contributions that consider male representation in films made at the turn of the century to explore precisely how those questions have been dealt with in cinema. Contributors move beyond the wave of "masculinity in crisis" arguments to provide sophisticated and often surprising insight into accessible films. Chapters are arranged in four sections: "Performing Masculinity" includes a discussion of Adam Sandler and movies such as Milk; "Patriarchal Problems" looks at issues of fathers from directors such as Martin Scorsese, Wes Anderson, and David Fincher; "Exceptional Sexualities" examines male love and sex through movies like Brokeback Mountain and Wedding Crashers; and "Facing Race" explores masculinity through race in film. Sean Penn, Jackie Chan, Brad Pitt, Will Smith, and Philip Seymour Hoffman are some of the actors included in these analyses, while themes considered include police thrillers, psychotic killers, gay tensions, fashion sense, and the burgeoning "bromance" genre. Taken together, the essays in this book shed light on the high stakes of masculine roles in American cinema. -- Publisher's description. |

-- Publisher's description.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Motion pictures</subfield><subfield code="z">United States.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85088112</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Men in motion pictures.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85083529</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Cinéma</subfield><subfield code="z">États-Unis.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Hommes au cinéma.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">PERFORMING ARTS</subfield><subfield code="x">Reference.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Men in motion pictures</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Motion pictures</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">United States</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJtxgQXMWqmjMjjwXRHgrq</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Film</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Mann</subfield><subfield code="g">Motiv</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/4123709-2</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Männlichkeit</subfield><subfield code="g">Motiv</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/4372433-4</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">USA</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Electronic book.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Shary, Timothy,</subfield><subfield code="d">1967-</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJfH3RDtkmDjV7r8CjgdwC</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n2001025403</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Millennial masculinity (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCGFjFqG6WV8FVRDqdWJTwP</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="t">Millennial masculinity.</subfield><subfield code="d">Detroit : Wayne State University Press, ©2013</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2012023757</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Contemporary approaches to film and media series.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2012079143</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=698538</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL - In virtually every aspect of culture - health, marriage, family, morals, politics, sex, race, economics - American men of the past two decades have faced changing social conditions and confronted radical questions about themselves.
