Zusammenfassung: | "Over the past few years, something remarkable has occurred in Latin America. For the first time since the Sandinista Revolution in Nicaragua in the 1980s, people within the region have turned toward radical left governments - specifically in Venezuela, Bolivia, and Ecuador. Why has this profound shift taken place and how does this new, so-called Twenty-First-Century Socialism actually manifest itself? What are we to make of the often fraught relationship between the social movements and governments in these countries and do, in fact, the latter even qualify as 'socialist' in reality? These are the bold and critical questions that Latin America's Turbulent Transitions explores. The authors provocatively argue that although US hegemony in the region is on the wane, the traditional socialist project is also declining and something new is emerging. Going beyond simple conceptions of 'the left', the book reveals the true underpinnings of this powerful, transformative, and yet also complicated and contradictory process."--Publisher's website |

Going beyond simple conceptions of 'the left', the book reveals the true underpinnings of this powerful, transformative, and yet also complicated and contradictory process."--Publisher's website</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Venezuela</subfield><subfield code="x">History</subfield><subfield code="y">21st century.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Venezuela</subfield><subfield code="x">Histoire</subfield><subfield code="y">21e siècle.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Socialism & left-of-centre democratic ideologies.</subfield><subfield code="2">bicssc</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">POLITICAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Political Ideologies</subfield><subfield code="x">Communism & Socialism.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Venezuela</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJmDpj4Bm8XF33tDc3kxDq</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="648" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">2000-2099</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">History</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Fox, Michael.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Fuentes, Federico.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n2009036810</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Latin America's turbulent transitions (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCGWcHHD9MWYWytqvCKPMCP</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Burbach, Roger.</subfield><subfield code="t">Latin America's Turbulent Transitions : The Future of Twenty-First Century Socialism.</subfield><subfield code="d">London : Zed Books, ©2013</subfield><subfield code="z">9781848135680</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=536942</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Internet Archive</subfield><subfield code="b">INAR</subfield><subfield code="n">latinamericastur0000burb</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Bloomsbury Publishing</subfield><subfield code="b">BLOO</subfield><subfield code="n">9781350221062</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Askews and Holts Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">ASKH</subfield><subfield code="n">AH24976396</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Askews and Holts Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">ASKH</subfield><subfield code="n">AH24976885</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL - Ebook Library</subfield><subfield code="b">EBLB</subfield><subfield code="n">EBL1126847</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBSCOhost</subfield><subfield code="b">EBSC</subfield><subfield code="n">536942</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ProQuest MyiLibrary Digital eBook Collection</subfield><subfield code="b">IDEB</subfield><subfield code="n">cis24746339</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">10196950</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">10311784</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="994" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">92</subfield><subfield code="b">GEBAY</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="049" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DE-863</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |

London : Zed Books, 2013. 1 online resource (226 pages) text txt rdacontent computer c rdamedia online resource cr rdacarrier Print version record. Includes bibliographical references and index. Introduction: turbulent transitions and the specter of socialism -- Globalization, neoliberalism, and the rise of the social movements -- The pink tide and the challenge to US hegemony -- Between neo-extractivism and twenty-first-century socialism -- Venezuela's twenty-first-century socialism -- Bolivia's communitarian socialism -- Ecuador's buen vivir socialism (by March Becker) -- Brazil: between challenging hegemony and embracing it -- Cuba: 'updating' twentieth-century socialism? -- Conclusion: socialism and the long Latin American spring. "Over the past few years, something remarkable has occurred in Latin America. Going beyond simple conceptions of 'the left', the book reveals the true underpinnings of this powerful, transformative, and yet also complicated and contradictory process."--Publisher's website Venezuela History 21st century.
