Zusammenfassung: | "Technology Change and the Rise of New Industries explores why new industries emerge at specific moments in time and in certain countries. Part I shows that technologies which experience "exponential" improvements in cost and performance have a greater chance of becoming new industries. When "low-end" discontinuities incur exponential improvements, they often displace the dominant technologies and become "disruptive" innovations. Part II explores this phenomenon and instances in which discontinuities spawn new industries because they impact higher-level systems. Part III addresses a different set of questions--ones that consider the challenges of new industries for firms and governments. Part IV uses ideas from the previous chapters to analyze the present and future of selected technologies. Based on analyses of many industries, including those with an electronic and clean energy focus, this book challenges the conventional wisdom that performance dramatically rises following the emergence of a new technology, that costs fall due to increases in cumulative production, and that low-end innovations automatically become disruptive ones."--Publisher's website. |

Part III addresses a different set of questions--ones that consider the challenges of new industries for firms and governments. Part IV uses ideas from the previous chapters to analyze the present and future of selected technologies. Based on analyses of many industries, including those with an electronic and clean energy focus, this book challenges the conventional wisdom that performance dramatically rises following the emergence of a new technology, that costs fall due to increases in cumulative production, and that low-end innovations automatically become disruptive ones."--Publisher's website.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Print version record.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Technological innovations.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85133143</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Industries.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85065960</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Technology</subfield><subfield code="x">Economic aspects.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Industry</subfield><subfield code="0">https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D007221</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Innovations.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Industrie.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Technologie</subfield><subfield code="x">Aspect économique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">BUSINESS & ECONOMICS</subfield><subfield code="x">Industries</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">BUSINESS & ECONOMICS / Industries / General</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Industries</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Technological innovations</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Technology</subfield><subfield code="x">Economic aspects</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Technology change and the rise of new industries (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCGxpKgFjPxb98yWCFtW6mm</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Funk, Jeffrey L.</subfield><subfield code="t">Technology change and the rise of new industries.</subfield><subfield code="d">Stanford, California : Stanford University Press, 2013</subfield><subfield code="z">9780804783859</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2012014298</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)787508853</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Innovation and technology in the world economy.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n2003015069</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=713542</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ProQuest Ebook Central</subfield><subfield code="b">EBLB</subfield><subfield code="n">EBL1074037</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ebrary</subfield><subfield code="b">EBRY</subfield><subfield code="n">ebr10627777</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBSCOhost</subfield><subfield code="b">EBSC</subfield><subfield code="n">713542</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Oxford University Press USA</subfield><subfield code="b">OUPR</subfield><subfield code="n">EDZ0000127609</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">9928542</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="994" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">92</subfield><subfield code="b">GEBAY</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="049" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DE-863</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |

Computers -- Magnetic recording and playback equipment -- Semiconductors -- part III. Opportunities and challenges for firms and governments. Competition in new industries -- Different industries, different challenges -- part IV. Thinking about the future. Electronics and electronic systems -- Clean energy. "Technology Change and the Rise of New Industries explores why new industries emerge at specific moments in time and in certain countries.
