Zusammenfassung: | The Singapore Perspectives series is a yearly publication that provides critical analysis of emerging trends and issues Singapore faces in terms of social, economic and political development. It is a quick and essential reference for understanding the broad policy discussions that animate thought leaders, policy-makers and the public in the country during the immediate period or that are likely to do so in the short and medium term. This edited volume brings together papers presented at the Singapore Perspectives 2012 Conference. The Conference came in the wake of Singapore's General Elections held on May 7, 2011, whose outcome resulted in Singapore's political leaders taking a fresh look at Singapore's public policy. More importantly, the government has pledged to reconnect with all segments of society, as it grapples with the issues that have arisen. Some of the major issues discussed in the book include the widening income gap, the affordability of housing and healthcare, as well as the re-examination of the processes of citizen participation in policy-making. The book also includes the speech made by Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, that outlines his views on the model of governance and policies that would help the country bridge the divides. Co-published by the think-tank, the Institute of Policy Studies, Singapore, this is a useful publication for those with an interest in understanding the governance challenges facing a small, highly globalised economy and nation-state, or those who want a quick feel of the pulse of Singapore. |

emerging trends and issues Singapore faces in terms of social, economic and political development. Co-published by the think-tank, the Institute of Policy Studies, Singapore, this is a useful publication for those with an interest in understanding the governance challenges facing a small, highly globalised economy and nation-state, or those who want a quick feel of the pulse of Singapore.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="505" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Foreword; Acknowledgements; Editors' Acknowledgements; Keynote Address Building an Inclusive Society Tharman Shanmugaratnam; Section 1: Business : as Usual, No Longer?; Chapter 1 Income Growth and Redistribution: Issues and Challenges Paul Cheung; INTRODUCTION; DISTRIBUTION OF THE PROCEEDS OF PRODUCTION; COULD THE WAGE SHARE GET BIGGER OVER TIME?; DISTRIBUTION AND GROWTH OF HOUSEHOLD INCOME; INCOME GROWTH OF HOUSEHOLDS, 2000 -2010; HOW HAVE HOUSEHOLDS COPED WITH RISING INCOME INEQUALITY?; UPW INCOME GROWTH AND UPWARD MOBILITY; THE 'PR' COMPETITION; CONCLUSION.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="505" ind1="8" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Chapter 2 Singapore's New Growth Model Chua Hak Bin and Shawlin ChawPRODUCTIVITY PRODUCTIVITY-DRIVEN GROWTH; "SINGAPOREANS FIRST" POLICY; "INCLUSIVE" GROWTH; Chapter 3 Macroeconomic Trends and Labour Welfare in Singapore: A Focus on Retirement Adequacy Hui Weng Tat; INTRODUCTION; MACROECONOMIC TRENDS IN THE SINGAPORE LABOUR MARKET; RETIREMENT ADEQUACY OF SINGAPORE WORKFORCE; SIMULATION ASSUMPTIONS; SIMULATION RESULTS; INFLATION INFLATION-ADJUSTED CPF CONTRIBUTION CEILING; INCREASE IN TOTAL CPF CONTRIBUTION RATE; EFFECT OF PROPERTY PURCHASE ON RETIREMENT ADEQUACY.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="505" ind1="8" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EFFECT OF UNEMPLOYMENT ON RETIREMENT ADEQUACYANNUAL WAGE GROWTH NEEDED TO ACHIEVE RETIREMENT ADEQUACY; INCREASE IN CPF RETURNS ON RETIREMENT ADEQUACY; CONCLUSION; REFERENCE; Section 2: Social Development and Working Together: Towards a : New Social Compact; Chapter 4 Re-Making Singapore Healthcare Jeremy Lim and Daniel Lee; THE 'NEW NORMAL' NORMAL'- POLITICS, DEMOGRAPHICS, ECONOMICS AND PHYSICS; RE RE-FORMULATING THE HEALTHCARE COMPACT; POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY -- WHAT PRICE IS LIFE?; WHERE DO WE DRAW THE LINE?; TRANSPARENCY OF DECISION DECISION-MAKING; SO WHAT PRICE IS LIFE?</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="505" ind1="8" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">FINANCING HEALTHCARE: FINE FINE-TUNING THE FUNDAMENTALLY SOUNDDELIVERING HEALTHCARE- "ALL HANDS ON DECK"; PUBLIC HEALTHCARE -- TOO LITTLE FOR TOO MANY?; "NEVER THE TWAIN SHALL MEET"?; "EXCUSEZ-MOI"; CONCLUSION; Chapter 5 Public Housing -- Appreciating Assets? Singapore inclusive: bridging divides Singapore : World Scientific, ©2012. 1 online resource text txt rdacontent computer c rdamedia online resource cr rdacarrier The Singapore Perspectives series is a yearly publication that provides critical analysis of emerging trends and issues Singapore faces in terms of social, economic and political development.
