Zusammenfassung: | "Mixing rigorous social theory with concrete analysis, Reading and Writing Disability Differently unpacks the marginality of disabled people by addressing how the meaning of our bodily existence is configured in everyday literate society. Tanya Titchkosky begins by illustrating how news media and policy texts reveal dominant Western ways of constituting the meaning of people, and the meaning of problems, as they relate to our understandings of the embodied self. Her goal is to configure disability as something more than a problem, and beyond simply a positive or a negative, and to treat texts on disability as potential sites to examine neo-liberal culture. Titchkosky holds that through an exploration of the potential behind limited representations of disability, we can relate to disability as a meaningful form of resistance to the restricted normative order of contemporary embodiment. Incorporating a textual analysis of ordinary depictions of disability, this innovative study promises to represent embodied differences in new ways and alter our imaginative relations to the politics of the body."-- |

Incorporating a textual analysis of ordinary depictions of disability, this innovative study promises to represent embodied differences in new ways and alter our imaginative relations to the politics of the body."--</subfield><subfield code="c">Provided by publisher.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="545" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Tanya Titchkosky is an associate professor and an associate department chair at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Print version record.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">People with disabilities in mass media.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85058707</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Sociology of disability.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh90000599</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Discrimination against people with disabilities.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh90005423</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Personnes handicapées dans les médias.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Handicap</subfield><subfield code="x">Aspect sociologique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Discrimination à l'égard des personnes handicapées.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">SOCIAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Media Studies.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">SOCIAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Sociology</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Discrimination against people with disabilities</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">People with disabilities in mass media</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Sociology of disability</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Behinderter Mensch</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Massenmedien</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Kanada</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/4029456-0</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Reading and writing disability differently (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCGyckYvgyqKW6kbBP7Gm3P</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Titchkosky, Tanya, 1966-</subfield><subfield code="t">Reading and writing disability differently.</subfield><subfield code="d">Toronto ; "Mixing rigorous social theory with concrete analysis, Reading and Writing Disability Differently unpacks the marginality of disabled people by addressing how the meaning of our bodily existence is configured in everyday literate society. Incorporating a textual analysis of ordinary depictions of disability, this innovative study promises to represent embodied differences in new ways and alter our imaginative relations to the politics of the body."-- Provided by publisher.
