Zusammenfassung: | This is the first full-length biography of the lawyer-turned-sports journalist whose brash style and pungent social commentary changed the way American sporting events are reported. Perhaps best known for his close relationship with the world champion boxer Muhammad Ali, Howard Cosell became a celebrity in his own right during the 1960's and 1970'sùthe bombastic, controversial, instantly recognizable sportscaster everyone "loved to hate." Raised in Brooklyn in a middle-class Jewish family, Cosell carried with him a deeply ingrained sense of social justice. Yet early on he abandoned plans for a legal career to become a pioneer in sports broadcasting, first in radio and then in television. While Cosell took courageous stands on behalf of civil rights and other causes, he could be remarkably blind to the inconsistencies in his own life. In this way, John Bloom argues, he embodied contradictions that still resonate widely in American society today. --Book Jacket. |

--Book Jacket.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Cosell, Howard,</subfield><subfield code="d">1918-1995.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n50018141</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="1"><subfield code="a">Cosell, Howard,</subfield><subfield code="d">1918-1995.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Cosell, Howard,</subfield><subfield code="d">1918-1995</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJg4j8yrP783rTx3GgDcyd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Sportscasters</subfield><subfield code="z">United States</subfield><subfield code="v">Biography.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Sportswriters</subfield><subfield code="z">United States</subfield><subfield code="v">Biography.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Journalistes sportifs</subfield><subfield code="z">États-Unis</subfield><subfield code="v">Biographies.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">SOCIAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Sportswriters</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Sportscasters</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">United States</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJtxgQXMWqmjMjjwXRHgrq</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Biographies</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">There you have it (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCFCpYq6DpVdCMRjWpRDH4q</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Bloom, John, 1962-</subfield><subfield code="t">There you have it.</subfield><subfield code="d">Amherst : University of Massachusetts Press, ©2010</subfield><subfield code="z">9781613760130</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2010037284</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">JSTOR EBA.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=1246222</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=1186886</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Askews and Holts Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">ASKH</subfield><subfield code="n">AH32602744</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL - Ebook Library</subfield><subfield code="b">EBLB</subfield><subfield code="n">EBL4532911</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBSCOhost</subfield><subfield code="b">EBSC</subfield><subfield code="n">1246222</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Project MUSE</subfield><subfield code="b">MUSE</subfield><subfield code="n">muse3884</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">13383602</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">10383813</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="994" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">92</subfield><subfield code="b">GEBAY</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="049" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DE-863</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |

Print version record. This is the first full-length biography of the lawyer-turned-sports journalist whose brash style and pungent social commentary changed the way American sporting events are reported. English.
