Zusammenfassung: | Engineering, for much of the twentieth century, was mainly about artifacts and inventions. Now, it's increasingly about complex systems. As the airplane taxis to the gate, you access the Internet and check email with your PDA, linking the communication and transportation systems. At home, you recharge your plug-in hybrid vehicle, linking transportation to the electricity grid. Today's large-scale, highly complex sociotechnical systems converge, interact, and depend on each other in ways engineers of old could barely have imagined. As scale, scope, and complexity increase, engineers consider technical and social issues together in a highly integrated way as they design flexible, adaptable, robust systems that can be easily modified and reconfigured to satisfy changing requirements and new technological opportunities. Engineering Systems offers a comprehensive examination of such systems and the associated emerging field of study. Through scholarly discussion, concrete examples, and history, the authors consider the engineer's changing role, new ways to model and analyze these systems, the impacts on engineering education, and the future challenges of meeting human needs through the technologically enabled systems of today and tomorrow. |

Through scholarly discussion, concrete examples, and history, the authors consider the engineer's changing role, new ways to model and analyze these systems, the impacts on engineering education, and the future challenges of meeting human needs through the technologically enabled systems of today and tomorrow.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Engineering systems.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2003006740</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Systems engineering.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85131750</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Engineering design</subfield><subfield code="x">Psychological aspects.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Systèmes d'ingénierie.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Ingénierie des systèmes.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Conception technique</subfield><subfield code="x">Aspect psychologique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">systems engineering.</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">TECHNOLOGY & ENGINEERING</subfield><subfield code="x">Engineering (General)</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">TECHNOLOGY & ENGINEERING</subfield><subfield code="x">Reference.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Engineering design</subfield><subfield code="x">Psychological aspects</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Engineering systems</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Systems engineering</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Technische innovatie.</subfield><subfield code="2">nbdbt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ENGINEERING/General</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ENGINEERING/Systems Science & Engineering</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Electronic book.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Roos, Daniel.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n88610565</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Magee, Christopher L.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n2011043089</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">De Weck, Olivier L.</subfield><subfield code="t">Engineering systems.</subfield><subfield code="d">Cambridge, Mass. : MIT Press, ©2011</subfield><subfield code="z">9780262016704</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2011020800</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)769542271</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Engineering systems.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2011177960</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=432806</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Coutts Information Services</subfield><subfield code="b">COUT</subfield><subfield code="n">22291167</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL - Print version record. Engineering, for much of the twentieth century, was mainly about artifacts and inventions.
