Zusammenfassung: | "In Economic Development and Transition, renowned development economist Justin Yifu Lin argues that economic performance in developing countries depends largely on government strategy. If the government plays a facilitating role, enabling firms to exploit the economy's comparative advantages, its economy will develop successfully. However, governments in most developing countries attempt to promote industries that go against their comparative advantages by creating various kinds of distortion to protect nonviable firms in priority industries. Failing to recognize the original intention of many distortions, most governments in transition economies attempt to eliminate those distortions without addressing firms' viability problems, causing economic performance to deteriorate in their transition process. Governments in successful transition economies adopt a pragmatic dual-track approach that encourages firms to enter sectors that were suppressed previously and gives necessary support to firms in priority industries before their viability issue is addressed."--Jacket |

Governments in successful transition economies adopt a pragmatic dual-track approach that encourages firms to enter sectors that were suppressed previously and gives necessary support to firms in priority industries before their viability issue is addressed."--Jacket</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Print version record.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Structural adjustment (Economic policy)</subfield><subfield code="z">Developing countries.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Developing countries</subfield><subfield code="x">Economic conditions.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85037344</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Developing countries</subfield><subfield code="x">Economic policy.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">BUSINESS & ECONOMICS</subfield><subfield code="x">Development</subfield><subfield code="x">Business Development.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">BUSINESS & ECONOMICS</subfield><subfield code="x">Development</subfield><subfield code="x">Economic Development.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">BUSINESS & ECONOMICS</subfield><subfield code="x">Development</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">BUSINESS & ECONOMICS</subfield><subfield code="x">Government & Business.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">BUSINESS & ECONOMICS</subfield><subfield code="x">Structural Adjustment.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">POLITICAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Public Policy</subfield><subfield code="x">Economic Policy.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Economic history</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Economic policy</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Structural adjustment (Economic policy)</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Developing countries</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Strukturanpassung</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/4294243-3</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Entwicklungsländer</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Economische politiek.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Oost-Azië.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">China.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Entwicklung.</subfield><subfield code="2">stw</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Entwicklungspolitik.</subfield><subfield code="2">stw</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Entwicklungsstrategie.</subfield><subfield code="2">stw</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Entwicklungsländer.</subfield><subfield code="2">stw</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Developing countries</subfield><subfield code="a">Economic conditions</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Structural adjustment (Economic policy)</subfield><subfield code="a">Developing countries</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Economic development and transition (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCFCxGXHrpCCrTDC4DF9RXb</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Lin, Justin Yifu, 1952-</subfield><subfield code="t">Economic development and transition.</subfield><subfield code="d">Cambridge ; "In Economic Development and Transition, renowned development economist Justin Yifu Lin argues that economic performance in developing countries depends largely on government strategy. Governments in successful transition economies adopt a pragmatic dual-track approach that encourages firms to enter sectors that were suppressed previously and gives necessary support to firms in priority industries before their viability issue is addressed."--Jacket Print version record.
