Zusammenfassung: | A collection of personal essays from men who wrestle with what it means to be a father in academia today. Organized in three sections, the stories of the contributors depict not merely a balancing act of parenting, teaching, and writing, but also the revelatory collision and occasional fusion of competing identities. Essays in the first section, "Fathers in Theory, Fathers in Praxis," focus on challenges related to merging work and parenting. The authors contemplate to what degree we engage our children in the academy, while also allowing them to grow independently, recognizing the challenge of keeping the roles of parent and teacher distinct. The second section, "Family Made," explores fatherhood against the grain and includes narratives of single dads, fathers raising children with disabilities, biracial families, and other "non-traditional" parenting situations. "Forging New Fatherhoods," the third section, articulates the strategies created by men to "balance diapers and a doctorate" or to reconcile fatherhood with professional ambition. The contributors' reflections reveal how fatherhood is instrumental to their successes and failures in the workplace, and demonstrate that the relationship between fatherhood and academia is a rich and legitimate subject for study. |

The contributors' reflections reveal how fatherhood is instrumental to their successes and failures in the workplace, and demonstrate that the relationship between fatherhood and academia is a rich and legitimate subject for study.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Fatherhood.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh89006293</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Father and child.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85047444</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Father-Child Relations</subfield><subfield code="0">https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D005219</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Paternité.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Père et enfant.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">FAMILY & RELATIONSHIPS</subfield><subfield code="x">Parenting</subfield><subfield code="x">Fatherhood.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">SOCIAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Men's Studies.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Father and child</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Fatherhood</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Electronic book.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Marotte, Mary Ruth.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Reynolds, Paige.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Savarese, Ralph James.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Papa, PhD (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCG7y83xXX48QkYwM7RGwP3</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Marotte, Mary Ruth.</subfield><subfield code="t">Papa, PhD : Essays on Fatherhood by Men in the Academy.</subfield><subfield code="d">Piscataway : Rutgers University Press, ©2010</subfield><subfield code="z">9780813548784</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">UPCC book collections on Project MUSE.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=410283</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Internet Archive</subfield><subfield code="b">INAR</subfield><subfield code="n">papaphdessaysonf0000unse</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL - Ebook Library</subfield><subfield code="b">EBLB</subfield><subfield code="n">EBL864868</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ebrary</subfield><subfield code="b">EBRY</subfield><subfield code="n">ebr10518891</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBSCOhost</subfield><subfield code="b">EBSC</subfield><subfield code="n">410283</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ProQuest MyiLibrary Digital eBook Collection</subfield><subfield code="b">IDEB</subfield><subfield code="n">cis24413889</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Project MUSE</subfield><subfield code="b">MUSE</subfield><subfield code="n">muse8147</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">3551748</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="994" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">92</subfield><subfield code="b">GEBAY</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="049" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DE-863</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |

A collection of personal essays from men who wrestle with what it means to be a father in academia today.
