Zusammenfassung: | The topic of recognition has come to occupy a central place in debates in social and political theory. Developed by George Herbert Mead and Charles Taylor, it has been given expression in the program for Critical Theory developed by Axel Honneth in his book The Struggle for Recognition. Honneth's research program offers an empirically insightful way of reflecting on emancipatory struggles for greater justice and a powerful theoretical tool for generating a conception of justice and the good that enables the normative evaluation of such struggles. This 2007 volume offers a critical clarification and evaluation of this research program, particularly its relationship to the other major development in critical social and political theory; namely, the focus on power as formative of practical identities (or forms of subjectivity) proposed by Michel Foucault and developed by theorists such as Judith Butler, James Tully, and Iris Marion Young. |

Honneth's research program offers an empirically insightful way of reflecting on emancipatory struggles for greater justice and a powerful theoretical tool for generating a conception of justice and the good that enables the normative evaluation of such struggles. This 2007 volume offers a critical clarification and evaluation of this research program, particularly its relationship to the other major development in critical social and political theory; namely, the focus on power as formative of practical identities (or forms of subjectivity) proposed by Michel Foucault and developed by theorists such as Judith Butler, James Tully, and Iris Marion Young.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Honneth, Axel,</subfield><subfield code="d">1949-</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n78038362</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Honneth, Axel,</subfield><subfield code="d">1949-</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Honneth, Axel,</subfield><subfield code="d">1949-</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJrwQBcK7rKFbtK4ypyjmd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Honneth, Axel.</subfield><subfield code="2">swd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Critical theory.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh88002456</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Recognition (Philosophy)</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh92001089</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Power (Philosophy)</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85105975</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Théorie critique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Reconnaissance (Philosophie)</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Pouvoir (Morale)</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">critical theories (dialectical critiques)</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">critical theory (sociological concept)</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">PSYCHOLOGY</subfield><subfield code="x">Social Psychology.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Critical theory</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Power (Philosophy)</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Recognition (Philosophy)</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Kritische Theorie</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/4073840-1</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Soziale Anerkennung</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/4388391-6</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Macht</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Utrecht <2003></subfield><subfield code="2">swd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Brink, Bert van den.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Owen, David,</subfield><subfield code="d">1964-</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCjFXb78VjqccDQcJfqdBWC</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n93095355</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Recognition and power (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCGyt6fYJv78Km3d8vYqbBP</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="t">Recognition and power.</subfield><subfield code="d">Cambridge ; Print version record. The topic of recognition has come to occupy a central place in debates in social and political theory.
