Zusammenfassung: | "In his final speech "I've Been to the Mountaintop," Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his support of African American garbage workers on strike in Memphis. Although some consider this oration King's finest, it is mainly known for its concluding two minutes, wherein King compares himself to Moses and seems to predict his own assassination. But King gave an hour-long speech, and the concluding segment can only be understood in relation to the whole. King scholars generally focus on his theology, not his relation to the Bible or the circumstance of a Baptist speaking in a Pentecostal setting. Even though King cited and explicated the Bible in hundreds of speeches and sermons, Martin Luther King's Biblical Epic is the first book to analyze his approach to the Bible and its importance to his rhetoric and persuasiveness. Martin Luther King's Biblical Epic argues that King challenged dominant Christian supersessionist conceptions of Judaism in favor of a Christianity that affirms Judaism as its wellspring. In his final speech, King implicitly but strongly argues that one can grasp Jesus only by first grasping Moses and the Hebrew prophets. This book also traces the roots of King's speech to its Pentecostal setting and to the Pentecostals in his audience. In doing so, Miller puts forth the first scholarship to credit the mostly unknown, but brilliant African American architect who created the large yet compact church sanctuary, which made possible the unique connection between King and his audience on the night of his last speech."--Amazon.com. |

In doing so, Miller puts forth the first scholarship to credit the mostly unknown, but brilliant African American architect who created the large yet compact church sanctuary, which made possible the unique connection between King and his audience on the night of his last speech."--Amazon.com.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Print version record.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">King, Martin Luther,</subfield><subfield code="c">Jr.,</subfield><subfield code="d">1929-1968</subfield><subfield code="x">Oratory.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">King, Martin Luther,</subfield><subfield code="c">Jr.,</subfield><subfield code="d">1929-1968.</subfield><subfield code="t">I've been to the mountaintop.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">King, Martin Luther,</subfield><subfield code="c">Jr.,</subfield><subfield code="d">1929-1968</subfield><subfield code="x">Knowledge</subfield><subfield code="x">Bible.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">King, Martin Luther,</subfield><subfield code="c">Jr.,</subfield><subfield code="d">1929-1968</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJrcjRkVcDK46CqybXcwYP</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="630" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Bible</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Sanitation Workers Strike, Memphis, Tenn., 1968.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh86001827</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Grève des éboueurs, Memphis, Tenn., 1968.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">POLITICAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Political Freedom & Security</subfield><subfield code="x">Civil Rights.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">POLITICAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Political Freedom & Security</subfield><subfield code="x">Human Rights.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">SOCIAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Ethnic Studies</subfield><subfield code="x">African American Studies.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Oratory</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Tennessee</subfield><subfield code="z">Memphis</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJfWY6yWGTkQMXY88R3CwC</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="647" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Sanitation Workers Strike</subfield><subfield code="c">(Memphis, Tennessee :</subfield><subfield code="d">1968)</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39Qhp4vB9cvf9WWK97CKfDwjK</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="648" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">1968</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Martin Luther King's biblical epic (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCFCRgJ8xwvbyR6B7mmx8P3</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Miller, Keith D.</subfield><subfield code="t">Martin Luther King's biblical epic.</subfield><subfield code="d">Jackson : University Press of Mississippi, ©2012</subfield><subfield code="z">9781617031083</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2011011331</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)708762485</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Race, rhetoric, and media series.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2012011854</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=408282</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Coutts Information Services</subfield><subfield code="b">COUT</subfield><subfield code="n">20191889</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL -
