Zusammenfassung: | (Publisher-supplied data) Our experiences of dying have been shaped by ancient ideas about death and social responsibility at the end of life. From Stone Age ideas about dying as otherworld journey to the contemporary Cosmopolitan Age of dying in nursing homes, Allan Kellehear takes the reader on a 2 million year journey of discovery that covers the major challenges we will all eventually face: anticipating, preparing, taming and timing for our eventual deaths. This is a major review of the human and clinical sciences literature about human dying conduct. The historical approach of this book places our recent images of cancer dying and medical care in broader historical, epidemiological and global context. Professor Kellehear argues that we are witnessing a rise in shameful forms of dying. It is not cancer, heart disease or medical science that presents modern dying conduct with its greatest moral tests, but rather poverty, aging and social exclusion. |

The historical approach of this book places our recent images of cancer dying and medical care in broader historical, epidemiological and global context. Professor Kellehear argues that we are witnessing a rise in shameful forms of dying. It is not cancer, heart disease or medical science that presents modern dying conduct with its greatest moral tests, but rather poverty, aging and social exclusion.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Print version record.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Death.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85036085</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Death</subfield><subfield code="x">Social aspects</subfield><subfield code="x">History.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Death</subfield><subfield code="x">Psychological aspects.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85036094</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Medicine</subfield><subfield code="x">History.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85083080</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Death</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="2" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Attitude to Death</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="2" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Cause of Death</subfield><subfield code="x">trends</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="2" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Socioeconomic Factors</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="2" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">History of Medicine</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Mort.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Mort</subfield><subfield code="x">Aspect social</subfield><subfield code="x">Histoire.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Mort</subfield><subfield code="x">Aspect psychologique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Médecine</subfield><subfield code="x">Histoire.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">deaths.</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">history of medicine.</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">FAMILY & RELATIONSHIPS</subfield><subfield code="x">Death, Grief, Bereavement.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">SOCIAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Death & Dying.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Medicine</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Death</subfield><subfield code="x">Psychological aspects</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Death</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Death</subfield><subfield code="x">Social aspects</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Tod</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Sterven.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Sociale aspecten.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Döden</subfield><subfield code="x">sociala aspekter</subfield><subfield code="x">historia.</subfield><subfield code="2">sao</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">History</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">A social history of dying (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCG7CF3w3TgWcXYtpVrg4mb</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Kellehear, Allan, 1955-</subfield><subfield code="t">Social history of dying.</subfield><subfield code="d">Cambridge ; (Publisher-supplied data) Our experiences of dying have been shaped by ancient ideas about death and social responsibility at the end of life. Print version record.
