Zusammenfassung: | Some police forces believe that 20 years from now they will operate much as they do today, but advances in technology and operating concepts are driving significant changes in day-to-day police operations. This book explores potential visions of the future of policing, based on the drivers of jurisdiction, technology, and threat, and includes concrete steps for implementation. This analysis is based on a review of policing methods and theories from the 19th century to the present day. Recommendations include educating personnel and leaders to build internal support for change, transitioning to shared technical platforms, and leveraging winning technologies. Because criminals will also use new technology that becomes available, the key to the future of policing will not be the technology itself; it will be the ways in which police forces adapt the technology to their needs. |

This analysis is based on a review of policing methods and theories from the 19th century to the present day. Recommendations include educating personnel and leaders to build internal support for change, transitioning to shared technical platforms, and leveraging winning technologies. Because criminals will also use new technology that becomes available, the key to the future of policing will not be the technology itself; it will be the ways in which police forces adapt the technology to their needs.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Police.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85104183</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Law enforcement</subfield><subfield code="x">Technological innovations.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Lois</subfield><subfield code="x">Application</subfield><subfield code="x">Innovations.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">POLITICAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Political Freedom & Security</subfield><subfield code="x">Law Enforcement.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">POLITICAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Law Enforcement.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Law enforcement</subfield><subfield code="x">Technological innovations</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Police</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Treverton, Gregory F.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n78009251</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="710" ind1="2" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Rand Corporation.</subfield><subfield code="b">National Security Research Division.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no95044143</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Moving toward the future of policing (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCH7yBK9wBfBjWY9mrFWKv3</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="z">0833053205</subfield><subfield code="z">9780833053206</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Rand Corporation monograph series ;</subfield><subfield code="v">MG1102.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2008057654</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=608685</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL - Ebook Library</subfield><subfield code="b">EBLB</subfield><subfield code="n">EBL796097</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ebrary</subfield><subfield code="b">EBRY</subfield><subfield code="n">ebr10506596</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBSCOhost</subfield><subfield code="b">EBSC</subfield><subfield code="n">608685</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ProQuest MyiLibrary Digital eBook Collection</subfield><subfield code="b">IDEB</subfield><subfield code="n">390984</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">7214693</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="994" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">92</subfield><subfield code="b">GEBAY</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="049" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DE-863</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |

Framing the future -- Policing today -- Crime does not respect jurisdiction -- The technology revolution enables change -- The threat will continue to morph -- Concepts of operations are critical -- Moving toward the vision. Some police forces believe that 20 years from now they will operate much as they do today, but advances in technology and operating concepts are driving significant changes in day-to-day police operations.
