Zusammenfassung: | "This powerful and innovative work by a gifted cultural historian explores the effects of religious conversion on family relationships, showing how the challenges of the Reformation can offer insight to families facing similarly divisive situations today. Craig Harline begins with the story of young Jacob Rolandus, the son of a Dutch Reformed preacher, who converted to Catholicism in 1654 and ran away from home, causing his family to disown him. In the companion story, Michael Sunbloom, a young American, leaves his family's religion in 1973 to convert to Mormonism, similarly upsetting his distraught parents. The modern twist to Michael's story is his realization that he is gay, causing him to leave his new church, and upsetting his parents again--but this time the family reconciles. Recounting these stories in short, alternating chapters, Harline underscores the parallel aspects of the two far-flung families. Despite different outcomes and forms, their situations involve nearly identical dynamics and heart-wrenching choices. Through the author's deeply informed imagination, the experiences of a seventeenth-century European family are transformed into immediately recognizable terms"--Publisher's description |

code="a">"This powerful and innovative work by a gifted cultural historian explores the effects of religious conversion on family relationships, showing how the challenges of the Reformation can offer insight to families facing similarly divisive situations today. Craig Harline begins with the story of young Jacob Rolandus, the son of a Dutch Reformed preacher, who converted to Catholicism in 1654 and ran away from home, causing his family to disown him. In the companion story, Michael Sunbloom, a young American, leaves his family's religion in 1973 to convert to Mormonism, similarly upsetting his distraught parents. The modern twist to Michael's story is his realization that he is gay, causing him to leave his new church, and upsetting his parents again--but this time the family reconciles. Recounting these stories in short, alternating chapters, Harline underscores the parallel aspects of the two far-flung families. Despite different outcomes and forms, their situations involve nearly identical dynamics and heart-wrenching choices. Through the author's deeply informed imagination, the experiences of a seventeenth-century European family are transformed into immediately recognizable terms"--Publisher's description</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Rolandus, Jacob.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Sunbloom, Michael.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Rolandus, Jacob</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Catholic converts</subfield><subfield code="x">Family relationships</subfield><subfield code="z">Netherlands.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Latter Day Saint converts</subfield><subfield code="x">Family relationships.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Latter Day Saint gay people</subfield><subfield code="x">Religious life.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Convertis catholiques</subfield><subfield code="x">Relations familiales</subfield><subfield code="z">Pays-Bas.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Convertis saints des derniers jours</subfield><subfield code="x">Relations familiales.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Personnes homosexuelles saints des derniers jours</subfield><subfield code="x">Vie religieuse.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">RELIGION</subfield><subfield code="x">Christian Life</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Netherlands</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJk4D96j3YTHJQfHCV3vpP</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Konversion.</subfield><subfield code="2">idszbz</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Conversions (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCGgD6VyG8YkbDmH6RW8P73</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Harline, Craig.</subfield><subfield code="t">Conversions.</subfield><subfield code="d">New Haven : Yale University Press, ©2011</subfield><subfield code="z">9780300167016</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2011013199</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)712591079</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">New directions in narrative history.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2011002638</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=389342</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">hoopla Digital</subfield><subfield code="b">HOPL</subfield><subfield code="n">MWT13556509</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Internet Archive</subfield><subfield code="b">INAR</subfield><subfield code="n">isbn_2900300192444</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Coutts Information Services</subfield><subfield code="b">COUT</subfield><subfield code="n">19195450</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">De Gruyter</subfield><subfield code="b">DEGR</subfield><subfield code="n">9780300167412</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL -
