Zusammenfassung: | Theodoret's People sheds new light on religious clashes of the mid-fifth century regarding the nature (or natures) of Christ. Adam M. Schor focuses on Theodoret, bishop of Cyrrhus, his Syrian allies, and his opponents, led by Alexandrian bishops Cyril and Dioscorus. Although both sets of clerics adhered to the Nicene creed, their contrasting theological statements led to hostilities, violence, and the permanent fracturing of the Christian community. Schor closely examines council transcripts, correspondence, and other records of communication. Using social network theory, he argues that Theodoret's doctrinal coalition was actually a meaningful community, bound by symbolic words and traditions, riven with internal rivalries, and embedded in a wider world of elite friendship and patronage. |

Although both sets of clerics adhered to the Nicene creed, their contrasting theological statements led to hostilities, violence, and the permanent fracturing of the Christian community. Schor closely examines council transcripts, correspondence, and other records of communication. Using social network theory, he argues that Theodoret's doctrinal coalition was actually a meaningful community, bound by symbolic words and traditions, riven with internal rivalries, and embedded in a wider world of elite friendship and patronage.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="0" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Theodoret,</subfield><subfield code="c">Bishop of Cyrrhus</subfield><subfield code="x">Friends and associates.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Theodoret,</subfield><subfield code="c">Bishop of Cyrrhus</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJhd7cGxJqwHhQtVv4HQv3</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Christian sociology</subfield><subfield code="z">Syria</subfield><subfield code="x">History.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Syria</subfield><subfield code="x">Church history.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Antiochian school.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85005723</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Sociologie religieuse</subfield><subfield code="x">Christianisme</subfield><subfield code="z">Syrie</subfield><subfield code="x">Histoire.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">École d'Antioche.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">RELIGION</subfield><subfield code="x">Christianity</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">RELIGION</subfield><subfield code="x">Christian Life</subfield><subfield code="x">Social Issues.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">HISTORY</subfield><subfield code="x">Ancient</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Antiochian school</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Christian sociology</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Friendship</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Syria</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39QbtfRrbPWVQ3tvhM9q9jX7B</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Church history</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">History</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Schor, Adam M., 1976-</subfield><subfield code="t">Theodoret's people.</subfield><subfield code="d">Berkeley : University of California Press, ©2010</subfield><subfield code="z">9780520268623</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2010025774</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)643082348</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Transformation of the classical heritage ;</subfield><subfield code="v">48.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=362292</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Coutts Information Services</subfield><subfield code="b">COUT</subfield><subfield code="n">19195618</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">De Gruyter</subfield><subfield code="b">DEGR</subfield><subfield code="n">9780520948617</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL - Theodoret's People sheds new light on religious clashes of the mid-fifth century regarding the nature (or natures) of Christ.
