Zusammenfassung: | Justices and Journalists examines whether justices are becoming more publicity-conscious and why that might be happening. The book discusses the motives of justices 'going public' and details their recent increased number of television and print interviews and amount of press coverage of their speeches. The book describes the interactions justices have with the journalists who cover them. These interactions typically are not discussed publicly by justices or journalists. The book explains why justices care about press and public relations, how they employ external strategies to affect press portrayals of themselves and their institution, and how and why journalists participate in that interaction. Drawing on the papers of Supreme Court justices in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the book examines these interactions over the history of the Court. It includes a content analysis of print and broadcast media coverage of Supreme Court justices covering a 40-year period from 1968 to 2007. |

It includes a content analysis of print and broadcast media coverage of Supreme Court justices covering a 40-year period from 1968 to 2007.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="610" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">United States.</subfield><subfield code="b">Supreme Court</subfield><subfield code="x">Officials and employees.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="610" ind1="1" ind2="6"><subfield code="a">États-Unis.</subfield><subfield code="b">Supreme Court</subfield><subfield code="x">Fonctionnaires.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="610" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">United States.</subfield><subfield code="b">Supreme Court</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Law in mass media.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002001172</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Mass media</subfield><subfield code="x">Law and legislation</subfield><subfield code="z">United States.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Judges</subfield><subfield code="z">United States.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh88002178</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Droit dans les médias.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Juges</subfield><subfield code="z">États-Unis.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">LAW</subfield><subfield code="x">Government</subfield><subfield code="x">Federal.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Employees</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Judges</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Law in mass media</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Mass media</subfield><subfield code="x">Law and legislation</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">United States</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJtxgQXMWqmjMjjwXRHgrq</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Electronic books.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Electronic books.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Justices and journalists (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCGv6qRw9Bm8wfcPdHjHWcP</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Davis, Richard, 1955-</subfield><subfield code="t">Justices and journalists.</subfield><subfield code="d">Cambridge [UK]; External strategies -- The pressure to go public -- The early years -- The nineteenth century -- The twentieth century -- Becoming newsworthy -- The twenty-first century. Print version record. Justices and Journalists examines whether justices are becoming more publicity-conscious and why that might be happening.
