Zusammenfassung: | Nausea is a complex sensation that results from the interaction of certain fixed biological factors, such as gender, with changeable psychological factors, such as anxiety. This is the first book to provide a complete, in-depth explanation of what we know about nausea, along with the latest research results on its causes and treatment. As it is the product of long-term collaboration between scientists from the three main approaches to studying and treating nausea--psychology, gastroenterology, and physiology--the information this book provides is both comprehensive and well integrated. The book is divided into two parts, on mechanisms and management, respectively, and four sections. The chapters in Section I introduce the concept of nausea as a protective control mechanism with individual dynamic thresholds, explain the function of nausea, review past and present conceptions of nausea, and describe the prevalence of nausea in different conditions. |

As it is the product of long-term collaboration between scientists from the three main approaches to studying and treating nausea--psychology, gastroenterology, and physiology--the information this book provides is both comprehensive and well integrated. The book is divided into two parts, on mechanisms and management, respectively, and four sections. The chapters in Section I introduce the concept of nausea as a protective control mechanism with individual dynamic thresholds, explain the function of nausea, review past and present conceptions of nausea, and describe the prevalence of nausea in different conditions.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Print version record.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Nausea.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85090324</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Nausea</subfield><subfield code="x">Treatment.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Nausea</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Nausée.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Nausée</subfield><subfield code="x">Traitement.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">HEALTH & FITNESS</subfield><subfield code="x">Diseases</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">MEDICAL</subfield><subfield code="x">Diseases.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">MEDICAL</subfield><subfield code="x">Internal Medicine.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">MEDICAL</subfield><subfield code="x">Clinical Medicine.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Nausea</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Nausea</subfield><subfield code="x">Treatment</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Koch, Kenneth L.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n84125603</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Andrews, P. Nausea : definitions, history, and function -- Prevalence of nausea from various causes -- Nausea as a protective control mechanism with a dynamic threshold -- The central nervous system and nausea -- The autonomic nervous system and nausea -- The endocrine system and nausea -- Gastric dysrhythmias and nausea -- The functions, identification, and measurement of nausea and related behaviours in animals -- The measurement of nausea in humans -- Diagnosis and management of acute and chronic nausea -- Nausea of diabetes -- Nausea during pregnancy -- Postoperative nausea -- Nausea resulting from cancer and its treatment -- Nausea of motion sickness -- Future research : management and mechanisms. Nausea is a complex sensation that results from the interaction of certain fixed biological factors, such as gender, with changeable psychological factors, such as anxiety.
