Zusammenfassung: | In his earlier books, Shadows in the Cave (1982) and Phenomenological Hermeneutics and the Study of Literature (1987), Mario Valdes laid the foundation for his phenomenological-hermeneutic approach to literary criticism. With this book he continues the development of his ideas, using his views of literature, cinema, and art to unravel what he calls 'the imaginative configuration of the world, the cultural phenomenon of making sense, poetic sense, of life.'. The book takes the form of a collection of studies dealing with a variety of key issues in literary theory. A central theme is the role of the reader in assigning meaning to written works. Literature is understood in its capacity to make sense of certain basic aspects of human experience, including the quest for order in the universe; personal identity over time, a definition of the self with respect to the other, and a definition of the self as a member of a cultural community. |

A central theme is the role of the reader in assigning meaning to written works. Literature is understood in its capacity to make sense of certain basic aspects of human experience, including the quest for order in the universe; personal identity over time, a definition of the self with respect to the other, and a definition of the self as a member of a cultural community.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Criticism.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Hermeneutics.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85060402</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Reader-response criticism.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85111643</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Critique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Herméneutique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Esthétique de la réception.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">hermeneutics.</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">literary criticism.</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">criticism.</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">LITERARY CRITICISM</subfield><subfield code="x">Semiotics & Theory.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Criticism</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Hermeneutics</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Reader-response criticism</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Literatur</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Kultur</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Hermeneutik</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/4128972-9</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Film</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/4017102-4</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Hermeneutiek.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Letterkunde.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Electronic books.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">e-books.</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Livres numériques.</subfield><subfield code="2">rvmgf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Hermeneutics of poetic sense (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCG8Dt4RFgDHdBqhKHMTMWC</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Valdés, Mario J.</subfield><subfield code="t">Hermeneutics of poetic sense.</subfield><subfield code="d">Toronto ; In his earlier books, Shadows in the Cave (1982) and Phenomenological Hermeneutics and the Study of Literature (1987), Mario Valdes laid the foundation for his phenomenological-hermeneutic approach to literary criticism.
