Zusammenfassung: | While aspiring to escape from the drudgery and alienation which seem to be the fate of manual workers, professionals have long realized to their distress that their professionalism and work commitment by no means reduce the stressfulness of their work. Such an awareness of the impact of work on their physical and emotional well-being has led the professionals to make efforts to maximize their person-environment fit and to enhance their coping and adaptation, knowing, sometimes helplessly, that society, bureaucracy, and work organization continue to be a potent source of work stress. This book offers deep analyses of work stress and coping among professionals by a multidisciplinary research team of sociologists, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and human resources experts. The work lives of seven groups of professionals are profiled and compared in this book: doctors, lawyers, engineers, nurses, teachers, police officers, and life insurance agents. Based on a large-scale survey, in-depth interviews, and comparative analyses, this book suggests practical recommendations and policy measures for personal, organizational as well as societal intervention. Work stress is a social problem - as such it requires a societal solution. Meanwhile, individual professionals cope and adapt in the way they know best, which is certainly not a satisfactory response. |

Meanwhile, individual professionals cope and adapt in the way they know best, which is certainly not a satisfactory response.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Print version record.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Professional employees</subfield><subfield code="x">Job stress</subfield><subfield code="z">Singapore.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Professionnels salariés</subfield><subfield code="x">Stress dû au travail</subfield><subfield code="z">Singapour.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">PSYCHOLOGY</subfield><subfield code="x">Industrial & Organizational Psychology.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Professional employees</subfield><subfield code="x">Job stress</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Singapore</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJpV8D6qM4JGxDqvHvtYfq</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Chan, Kwok B.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="t">Work stress and coping among professionals.</subfield><subfield code="d">Leiden ; Boston : Brill, 2007</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2006051679</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Social sciences in Asia ;</subfield><subfield code="v">v. 11.</subfield><subfield code="x">1567-2794</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n2004090403</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=252640</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="936" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">BATCHLOAD</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Askews and Holts Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">ASKH</subfield><subfield code="n">AH37544161</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL - Ebook Library</subfield><subfield code="b">EBLB</subfield><subfield code="n">EBL371054</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ebrary</subfield><subfield code="b">EBRY</subfield><subfield code="n">ebr10270786</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBSCOhost</subfield><subfield code="b">EBSC</subfield><subfield code="n">252640</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ProQuest MyiLibrary Digital eBook Collection</subfield><subfield code="b">IDEB</subfield><subfield code="n">191707</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">2908454</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Internet Archive</subfield><subfield code="b">INAR</subfield><subfield code="n">workstresscoping0000unse</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="994" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">92</subfield><subfield code="b">GEBAY</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="049" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DE-863</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |
