Zusammenfassung:Bringing together case studies from Europe, Africa, North and South America, this book examines the current situation regarding the role of the individual and the state in land development. By examining a range of issues related to land reform, land development and land management, it provides a unique reflection of the state of research and stresses the implementation of sustainable processes of land development as an integrated principle of land management. The book is divided into three main section, as well as a contextual introduction and concluding chapter. The first section focusses on land reform and concentrates on recent developments that have taken place in transition economies and addresses issues of the rights of the land users, together with contested land rights in South America. Part Two addresses a number of issues relating to sustainability and land development, ranging from emerging land markets, environmental issues, through to natural resource development. Finally, the third part provides practical case studies of the application of land reform and land development to land management.
