Zusammenfassung: | Free Trade Reimagined begins with a sustained criticism of the heart of the emerging world economy, the theory and practice of free trade. Roberto Mangabeira Unger does not, however, defend protectionism against free trade. Instead, he attacks and revises the terms on which the traditional debate between free traders and protectionists has been joined. Unger's intervention in this major contemporary debate serves as a point of departure for a proposal to rethink the basic ideas with which we explain economic activity. He suggests, by example as well as by theory, a way of understanding contemporary economies that is both more realistic and more revealing of hidden possibilities for transformation than are the established forms of economics. |

Instead, he attacks and revises the terms on which the traditional debate between free traders and protectionists has been joined. Unger's intervention in this major contemporary debate serves as a point of departure for a proposal to rethink the basic ideas with which we explain economic activity. He suggests, by example as well as by theory, a way of understanding contemporary economies that is both more realistic and more revealing of hidden possibilities for transformation than are the established forms of economics.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Print version record.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Free trade.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85051682</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Globalization</subfield><subfield code="x">Economic aspects.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Libre-échange.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Mondialisation.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">globalism.</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">BUSINESS & ECONOMICS</subfield><subfield code="x">International</subfield><subfield code="x">Marketing.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">POLITICAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">International Relations</subfield><subfield code="x">Trade & Tariffs.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">BUSINESS & ECONOMICS</subfield><subfield code="x">International</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">BUSINESS & ECONOMICS</subfield><subfield code="x">Exports & Imports.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">POLITICAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">History & Theory.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Free trade</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Globalization</subfield><subfield code="x">Economic aspects</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Vrijhandel.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Arbeidsverdeling.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Free trade reimagined (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCGvCQvhmf7dgV9rFMyKQYP</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Unger, Roberto Mangabeira.</subfield><subfield code="t">Free trade reimagined.</subfield><subfield code="d">Princeton, N.J. : Princeton University Press, ©2007</subfield><subfield code="z">9780691134291</subfield><subfield code="z">0691134294</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2007017229</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)123539675</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=273057</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Askews and Holts Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">ASKH</subfield><subfield code="n">AH26387441</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL - Themes and Scope of this Book; CHAPTER 1 Troubles: The Enigmas of Free Trade; CHAPTER 2 Troubles: The Incompleteness of Comparative Advantage; CHAPTER 3 Ideas; CHAPTER 4 Theses; CHAPTER 5 Proposals; The Troubles of Free Trade and the Possibilities of Economics; NAME INDEX; SUBJECT INDEX. Free Trade Reimagined begins with a sustained criticism of the heart of the emerging world economy, the theory and practice of free trade.
