Zusammenfassung: | "When Lady in the Dark opened on January 23, 1941, its many firsts immediately distinguished it as a new and unusual work. The curious directive to playwright Moss Hart to complete a play about psychoanalysis came from his own Freudian psychiatrist. For the first time since his brother George's death, Ira Gershwin returned to writing lyrics for the theater. And for emigre composer Kurt Weill, it was a crack at an opulent first-class production. Together Hart, Gershwin, and Weill (with a little help from the psychiatrist) produced one of the most innovative works in Broadway history." "Though Lady in the Dark was a smash-hit, it has never enjoyed a Broadway revival, and a certain mystique has grown up around its legendary original production. In this biography, Bruce McClung pieces together the musical's life story from sketches and drafts, production scripts, correspondence, photographs, costume and set designs, and thousands of clippings from the star's personal scrapbooks. He has interviewed eleven members of the original company to provide a one-of-a-kind glimpse into the backstage story." "The result is a virtual ticket to opening night, the saga of how this musical play came to be, and the string of events that saved the experimental show at every turn. Although America was turned upside down by Pearl Harbor after the production was on the boards, Lady in the Dark played an important role for the war effort and rang up 777 performances in 12 cities. In what may be the most illuminating study of a single Broadway musical, this biography brings Lady in the Dark back to the spotlight and puts readers in the front row."--Jacket. |

In what may be the most illuminating study of a single Broadway musical, this biography brings Lady in the Dark back to the spotlight and puts readers in the front row."--Jacket.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Weill, Kurt,</subfield><subfield code="d">1900-1950.</subfield><subfield code="t">Lady in the dark.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2001092221</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="630" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Lady in the dark (Weill, Kurt)</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Weill, Kurt; Lady in the dark.</subfield><subfield code="2">idszbz</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Musicals</subfield><subfield code="x">History and criticism.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85089015</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Comédies musicales</subfield><subfield code="x">Histoire et critique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">PERFORMING ARTS</subfield><subfield code="x">Theater</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Musicals</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Geschichte.</subfield><subfield code="2">idszbz</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Criticism, interpretation, etc.</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Lady in the dark (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCGMfQxVj9F6v49PJxhY4HK</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">McClung, Bruce D., 1961-</subfield><subfield code="t">Lady in the dark.</subfield><subfield code="d">Oxford ; New York : Oxford University Press, 2007</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2006003132</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">OUP E-Books.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=191214</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="936" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">BATCHLOAD</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBSCOhost</subfield><subfield code="b">EBSC</subfield><subfield code="n">191214</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">2952662</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">7133314</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="994" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">92</subfield><subfield code="b">GEBAY</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="049" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DE-863</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |
