Zusammenfassung: | "Since the infamous events of 9/11, the fear of terrorism and the determination to strike back against it has become a topic of enormous public debate. The 'war on terror' discourse has developed not only through American politics but via other channels including the media, the church, music, novels, films and television, and therefore permeates many aspects of American life. Stuart Croft suggests that the process of this production of knowledge has created a very particular form of common sense which shapes relationships, jokes and even forms of tattoos. Understanding how a social process of crisis can be mapped out and how that process creates assumptions allows policy-making in America's war on terror to be examined from new perspectives. Using international relations approaches together with insights from cultural studies, this book develops a dynamic model of crisis which seeks to understand the war on terror as a cultural phenomenon."--Jacket |

The 'war on terror' discourse has developed not only through American politics but via other channels including the media, the church, music, novels, films and television, and therefore permeates many aspects of American life. Stuart Croft suggests that the process of this production of knowledge has created a very particular form of common sense which shapes relationships, jokes and even forms of tattoos. Understanding how a social process of crisis can be mapped out and how that process creates assumptions allows policy-making in America's war on terror to be examined from new perspectives. Using international relations approaches together with insights from cultural studies, this book develops a dynamic model of crisis which seeks to understand the war on terror as a cultural phenomenon."--Jacket</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">War on Terrorism, 2001-2009</subfield><subfield code="x">Social aspects.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">War on Terrorism, 2001-2009</subfield><subfield code="x">Mass media and the war.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Terrorism</subfield><subfield code="x">Social aspects</subfield><subfield code="z">United States.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">United States</subfield><subfield code="x">Foreign relations</subfield><subfield code="y">1989-</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh93001742</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">United States</subfield><subfield code="x">Politics and government</subfield><subfield code="y">2001-</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">United States</subfield><subfield code="x">Social conditions</subfield><subfield code="y">21st century.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Terrorism.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85134112</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Terrorism</subfield><subfield code="0">https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D023481</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Guerre contre le terrorisme, 2001-2009</subfield><subfield code="x">Aspect social.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Terrorisme</subfield><subfield code="x">Aspect social</subfield><subfield code="z">États-Unis.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">États-Unis</subfield><subfield code="x">Relations extérieures</subfield><subfield code="y">1989-</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">États-Unis</subfield><subfield code="x">Conditions sociales</subfield><subfield code="y">21e siècle.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">terrorism.</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">POLITICAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Political Freedom & Security</subfield><subfield code="x">Terrorism.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Diplomatic relations</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Mass media and war</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Politics and government</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Social aspects</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Social conditions</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Terrorism</subfield><subfield code="x">Social aspects</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">United States</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJtxgQXMWqmjMjjwXRHgrq</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="647" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">War on Terrorism</subfield><subfield code="d">(2001-2009)</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39Qhp4vB9HVBC9J8MqvQ8QwjK</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="648" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Since 1989</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Culture, crisis and America's War on Terror (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCGVHx9BFqRXBfQVXw47kfy</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Croft, Stuart.</subfield><subfield code="t">Culture, crisis and America's War on Terror.</subfield><subfield code="d">Cambridge ;
