Zusammenfassung: | This volume examines comparatively the views and principles of seven prominent ethical traditions on one of the most pressing issues of modern politics - the making and unmaking of state and national boundaries. The traditions represented are Judaism, Christianity, Islam, natural law, Confucianism, liberalism and international law. Each contributor, an expert within one of these traditions, shows how that tradition can handle the five dominant methods of altering state and national boundaries: conquest, settlement, purchase, inheritance and secession. Written by a distinguished group of international specialists this volume is unique in providing both in-depth normative and comparative perspectives on a troubling question that will offer readers real insight into inter-tradition conflict. Those readers will range from upper-level undergraduates to scholars in such fields as philosophy, political science, international relations and comparative religion. |

Those readers will range from upper-level undergraduates to scholars in such fields as philosophy, political science, international relations and comparative religion.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Boundaries</subfield><subfield code="x">Moral and ethical aspects.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Frontières</subfield><subfield code="x">Aspect moral.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">POLITICAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Borders</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Ethics</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Overseas item</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Étude comparée (Descripteur de forme)</subfield><subfield code="2">rasuqam</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Buchanan, Allen E.,</subfield><subfield code="d">1948-</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJfcTyDDQqFC4YYhwVmPQq</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n81146279</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Moore, Margaret</subfield><subfield code="c">(Professor in Political Theory)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJdrMDyB69bgGp3Y6tGfv3</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n98031198</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="t">States, nations, and borders.</subfield><subfield code="d">Cambridge : Cambridge University Press, 2003</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2002073554</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Ethikon series in comparative ethics.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n97052461</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=120755</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="936" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">BATCHLOAD</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Internet Archive</subfield><subfield code="b">INAR</subfield><subfield code="n">isbn_9780521525756</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Askews and Holts Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">ASKH</subfield><subfield code="n">AH37556932</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ebrary</subfield><subfield code="b">EBRY</subfield><subfield code="n">ebr10289406</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBSCOhost</subfield><subfield code="b">EBSC</subfield><subfield code="n">120755</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ProQuest MyiLibrary Digital eBook Collection</subfield><subfield code="b">IDEB</subfield><subfield code="n">43064</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">2617936</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">3016613</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">3278951</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">2300970</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="994" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">92</subfield><subfield code="b">GEBAY</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="049" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DE-863</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |

This volume examines comparatively the views and principles of seven prominent ethical traditions on one of the most pressing issues of modern politics - the making and unmaking of state and national boundaries.
