Zusammenfassung: | "A century and a half before the modern information technology revolution, machinists in the eastern United States created the nation's first high technology industries. In iron foundries and steam-engine works, locomotive works, machine and tool shops, textile-machinery firms, and firearms manufacturers, these resourceful workers pioneered the practice of dispersing technological expertise through communities of practice. In the first book to study this phenomenon since the 1916 classic, English and American Tool Builders, David R. Meyer examines the development of skilled-labor exchange systems, showing how individual metalworking sectors grew and moved outward. He argues that the networked behavior of machinists within and across industries helps explain the rapid transformation of metalworking industries during the antebellum period, building a foundation for the sophisticated, mass production/consumer industries that figured so prominently in the later U.S. economy."--Publisher's website |

He argues that the networked behavior of machinists within and across industries helps explain the rapid transformation of metalworking industries during the antebellum period, building a foundation for the sophisticated, mass production/consumer industries that figured so prominently in the later U.S. economy."--Publisher's website</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Machinists</subfield><subfield code="z">United States</subfield><subfield code="x">History.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Metalworking industries</subfield><subfield code="z">United States</subfield><subfield code="x">History.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Machinistes (Mécanique)</subfield><subfield code="z">États-Unis</subfield><subfield code="x">Histoire.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Industries métallurgiques</subfield><subfield code="z">États-Unis</subfield><subfield code="x">Histoire.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">BUSINESS & ECONOMICS</subfield><subfield code="x">Knowledge Capital.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Machinists</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Metalworking industries</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">United States</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJtxgQXMWqmjMjjwXRHgrq</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Maschinist</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/4778063-0</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Metallverarbeitende Industrie</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/4169639-6</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">USA</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/4078704-7</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">History</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Networked machinists (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCH9kpFW6vDvhd3G9RMTVfq</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Meyer, David R.</subfield><subfield code="t">Networked machinists.</subfield><subfield code="d">Baltimore : Johns Hopkins University Press, 2006</subfield><subfield code="z">0801884713</subfield><subfield code="z">9780801884719</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2006009628</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)65340979</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Johns Hopkins studies in the history of technology.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n42013987</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="966" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">DE-862</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=215898</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="966" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">DE-863</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=215898</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="936" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">BATCHLOAD</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Askews and Holts Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">ASKH</subfield><subfield code="n">AH35311203</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL - Print version record. "A century and a half before the modern information technology revolution, machinists in the eastern United States created the nation's first high technology industries. He argues that the networked behavior of machinists within and across industries helps explain the rapid transformation of metalworking industries during the antebellum period, building a foundation for the sophisticated, mass production/consumer industries that figured so prominently in the later U.S. economy."--Publisher's website Machinists United States History.
