Zusammenfassung: | "In the opening chapters of her book, Assiter provides a lucid exposition of contemporary postmodern feminism. She analyses the writings of some of its most influential theorists, and places them in the wider context of postmodern and post-structuralist theory as developed, for example, by Lyotard and Derrida. Assiter then develops a citique of the antirealist stance that unites postmodern thinkers and makes a powerful argument for epistemological realism." "In later chapters, Assiter goes on to outline a 'modernist' feminist epistemology based on communities rather than the individual; she asserts that a version of the humanist subject based on bodily identity can be defended against postmodernist deconstructions; and she demonstrates that we can indeed make claims about women that are universally true. Enlightened Women argues for retaining the distinction between sex and gender and concludes with an alternative reading of the theory of sexuality." "Enlightened Women provides a clear and concise overview of postmodernism and French feminist thought; at the same time it argues, against received opinion, for a partial return to modernist values."--Jacket |

exposition of contemporary postmodern feminism. Enlightened Women argues for retaining the distinction between sex and gender and concludes with an alternative reading of the theory of sexuality." "Enlightened Women provides a clear and concise overview of postmodernism and French feminist thought; at the same time it argues, against received opinion, for a partial return to modernist values."--Jacket</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="505" ind1="0" ind2="0"><subfield code="g">Machine generated contents note:</subfield><subfield code="g">1.</subfield><subfield code="t">Flight from Universals --</subfield><subfield code="g">2.</subfield><subfield code="t">Irigaray, Lacan and Derrida --</subfield><subfield code="g">3.</subfield><subfield code="t">Realism and Anti-Realism --</subfield><subfield code="g">4.</subfield><subfield code="t">Irigaray and the Self --</subfield><subfield code="g">5.</subfield><subfield code="t">Feminist Epistemological Communities --</subfield><subfield code="g">6.</subfield><subfield code="t">Feminism and Morality --</subfield><subfield code="g">7.</subfield><subfield code="t">Essentialism and Universalism Revisited --</subfield><subfield code="g">8.</subfield><subfield code="t">Critique of Constructivist Accounts of Sexuality.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Feminist theory.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh90002282</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Postmodernism.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85105557</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Feminism.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85047741</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Feminism</subfield><subfield code="0">https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D019513</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Théorie féministe.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Postmodernisme.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Féminisme.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">feminism.</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">SOCIAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Feminism & Feminist Theory.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Feminism</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Feminist theory</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Postmodernism</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Feminism</subfield><subfield code="a">Related to</subfield><subfield code="a">Postmodernism</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Enlightened women (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCGVvkQMcPRMbjFJ7f7cvBP</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Assiter, Alison.</subfield><subfield code="t">Enlightened women.</subfield><subfield code="d">London ; Print version record. "In the opening chapters of her book, Assiter provides a lucid exposition of contemporary postmodern feminism.
