Zusammenfassung: | This book was first published in 2005. In the time span of a two-term US presidency, Poland went from an authoritarian one-party state with a faltering centrally planned economy to become a relatively stable multiparty democracy and a market economy with one of the highest GDP growth rates in Europe. A central feature of these economic and political reforms is a high rate of entry of new, domestically owned firms. This book uses detailed economic and political data to examine how these new firms contributed to the Polish transition. The authors test propositions about why some regions have more new firms than others and how the success of these new firms contributed to political constituencies that supported economically liberal parties. The book concludes by contrasting the Polish with the experiences of other transitional countries. |

The book concludes by contrasting the Polish with the experiences of other transitional countries.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Poland</subfield><subfield code="x">Economic conditions</subfield><subfield code="y">1990-</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh93007533</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Poland</subfield><subfield code="x">Economic policy</subfield><subfield code="y">1990-</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh94001377</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Poland</subfield><subfield code="x">Politics and government</subfield><subfield code="y">1989-</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh90001713</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Pologne</subfield><subfield code="x">Conditions économiques</subfield><subfield code="y">1990-</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Pologne</subfield><subfield code="x">Politique économique</subfield><subfield code="y">1990-</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Pologne</subfield><subfield code="x">Politique et gouvernement</subfield><subfield code="y">1989-</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">POLITICAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Economic Conditions.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">BUSINESS & ECONOMICS</subfield><subfield code="x">Economics</subfield><subfield code="x">Comparative.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">BUSINESS & ECONOMICS</subfield><subfield code="x">Economic Conditions.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">BUSINESS & ECONOMICS</subfield><subfield code="x">Economic History.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Economic history</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Economic policy</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Politics and government</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Poland</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39QbtfRgyP3qcDKmj68x7FVbM</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Economische hervormingen.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="648" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Since 1989</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Electronic books.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Electronic books.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Klich, Jacek,</subfield><subfield code="d">1958-</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCjHPp6kDmd7YvMm7hm8dXq</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Poznańska, Krystyna,</subfield><subfield code="d">1954-</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCjFQGRHwgYr3x8DGy49DD3</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n2004106229</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">The political economy of Poland's transition (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCFDVCh9j9YGhmb3ypHj4md</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Jackson, John Edgar.</subfield><subfield code="t">Political economy of Poland's transition.</subfield><subfield code="d">Cambridge ; In the time span of a two-term US presidency, Poland went from an authoritarian one-party state with a faltering centrally planned economy to become a relatively stable multiparty democracy and a market economy with one of the highest GDP growth rates in Europe.
