Zusammenfassung: | A welcome addition to the fields of Latino and (trans-)American cultural and literary studies, Latino Dreams focuses on a selection of Latino narratives, published between the mid-1980s and the mid-1990s, that may be said to traffic in the U.S.A.'s attendant myths and governing cultural logics. The selection includes novels by authors who have received little academic attention-Abraham Rodriguez, Achy Obejas, and Benjamin Alire Sáenz-along with underattended texts from more renowned writers-Rosario Ferré, Coco Fusco, and Guillermo Gómez-Peña. Latino Dreams takes a transcultural approach in order to raise questions of subaltern subordination and domination, and the resistant capacities of cultural production. The analysis explores how the selected narratives deploy specific narrative tactics, and a range of literary and other cultural capital, in order to question and reform the U.S.A.'s imaginary coordinates. In these texts, moreover, national imperatives are complicated by recourse to feminist, queer, panethnic, postcolonial, or transnational agendas. Yet the analysis also recognizes instances in which the counter-narrative will is frustrated: the narratives may provide signs of the U.S.A.'s hegemonic resilience in the face of imaginary disavowal. |

Yet the analysis also recognizes instances in which the counter-narrative will is frustrated: the narratives may provide signs of the U.S.A.'s hegemonic resilience in the face of imaginary disavowal.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Spanish American literature</subfield><subfield code="y">20th century</subfield><subfield code="x">History and criticism.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">American literature</subfield><subfield code="x">Hispanic American authors</subfield><subfield code="y">20th century</subfield><subfield code="x">History and criticism.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Culture in literature.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh94004506</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Nationalism in literature.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85090160</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Littérature hispano-américaine</subfield><subfield code="y">20e siècle</subfield><subfield code="x">Histoire et critique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Littérature américaine</subfield><subfield code="x">Auteurs américains d'origine latino-américaine</subfield><subfield code="y">20e siècle</subfield><subfield code="x">Histoire et critique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Culture dans la littérature.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Nationalisme dans la littérature.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">POETRY</subfield><subfield code="x">Continental European.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">American literature</subfield><subfield code="x">Hispanic American authors</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Culture in literature</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Nationalism in literature</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Spanish American literature</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Spaanse Amerikanen.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Spaans.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Letterkunde.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Amerikaans.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="648" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">1900-1999</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Criticism, interpretation, etc.</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Latino dreams (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCGgbffpw9fDHKb84GkPbBP</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Allatson, Paul.</subfield><subfield code="t">Latino dreams.</subfield><subfield code="d">Amsterdam ; Afterword: Notes on transcultural traffic from across el charco pacífico -- Bibliography -- Index. A welcome addition to the fields of Latino and (trans-)American cultural and literary studies, Latino Dreams focuses on a selection of Latino narratives, published between the mid-1980s and the mid-1990s, that may be said to traffic in the U.S.A.'s attendant myths and governing cultural logics.
