Zusammenfassung: | Reframing Pilgrimage argues that sacred travel is just one of the twenty-first century's many forms of cultural mobility. The contributors consider the meanings of pilgrimage in Christian, Mormon, Hindu, Islamic and Sufi traditions, as well as in secular contexts, and they create a new theory of pilgrimage as a form of voluntary displacement. This voluntary displacement helps to constitute cultural meaning in a world constantly 'en route'. Pilgrimage, which works both on global economic and individual levels, is recognised as a highly creative and politically charged force intimately bound up in economic and cultural systems. |

Pilgrimage, which works both on global economic and individual levels, is recognised as a highly creative and politically charged force intimately bound up in economic and cultural systems.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Print version record.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Pilgrims and pilgrimages.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85102131</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Pèlerinages.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Tourisme spirituel.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">pilgrimages.</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">RELIGION</subfield><subfield code="x">Reference.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Pilgrims and pilgrimages</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Wallfahrt</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/4064460-1</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Pelgrims.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Bedevaarten.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Cultuur.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Multi-User: limited to 5 simultaneous users.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Coleman, Simon,</subfield><subfield code="d">1963-</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n95080159</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Eade, John,</subfield><subfield code="d">1946-</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n88247744</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="710" ind1="2" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">European Association of Social Anthropologists.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n91116261</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="t">Reframing pilgrimage.</subfield><subfield code="d">London ; London ; New York : Routledge, 2004. 1 online resource (xii, 197 pages) text txt rdacontent computer c rdamedia online resource cr rdacarrier European Association of Social Anthropologists Includes bibliographical references (pages 175-190) and index. Introduction: Reframing pilgrimage / Simon Coleman, John Eade -- 'Being there': British Mormons and the history trail / Hildi Mitchell -- From England's Nazareth to Sweden's Jerusalem: movement, (virtual) landscapes and pilgrimage / Simon Coleman -- Going and not going to Porokhane: Mourid women and pilgrimage in Senegal and Spain / Eva Evers Rosander -- Embedded motion: sacred travel among Mevlevi dervishes / Bente Nikolaisen -- 'Heartland of America': memory, motion and the (re)construction of history on a motorcycle pilgrimage / Jill Dubisch -- Coming home to the Motherland: pilgrimage tourism in Ghana / Katharina Schramm -- Route metaphors of 'roots-tourism' in the Scottish Highland diaspora / Paul Basu. Reframing Pilgrimage argues that sacred travel is just one of the twenty-first century's many forms of cultural mobility.
