Zusammenfassung: | Located at the southwest corner of Lake Turkana in northern Kenya, Lothagam represents one of the most important intervals in African prehistory. Early human remains are restricted in distribution to Africa and the acquisition of an upright bipedal striding gait, the hallmark of humanity, appears to be at least circumstantially linked to the reduction of equatorial forests and the spread of grasslands on that continent. The diverse Lothagam fauna documents the end-Miocene transition from forested to more open habitats that were exploited by grazing horses and antelopes, hippos, giant pigs, and true elephants. It also includes spectacularly complete fossil carnivore skeletons and some of the oldest human remains. |

It also includes spectacularly complete fossil carnivore skeletons and some of the oldest human remains.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">In English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Print version record.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Vertebrates, Fossil</subfield><subfield code="z">Kenya</subfield><subfield code="z">Lothagam Site.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Paleontology</subfield><subfield code="y">Miocene.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85097132</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Animals, Fossil</subfield><subfield code="z">Kenya</subfield><subfield code="z">Lothagam Site.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Lothagam Site (Kenya)</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85078451</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Vertébrés fossiles</subfield><subfield code="z">Kenya</subfield><subfield code="z">Lothagam (Site archéologique)</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Paléontologie</subfield><subfield code="y">Miocène.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Lothagam (Kenya : Site archéologique)</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">NATURE</subfield><subfield code="x">Fossils.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Paleontology.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Animals, Fossil</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Miocene Geologic Epoch</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Paleontology</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Vertebrates, Fossil</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Kenya</subfield><subfield code="z">Lothagam Site</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="648" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">From 10 to 25 million years ago</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Leakey, Meave G.,</subfield><subfield code="e">editor.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n77007221</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Harris, John M.</subfield><subfield code="q">(John Michael),</subfield><subfield code="e">editor.</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCjJ3vthgYBFmpyhfqXPfFX</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79100527</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Lothagam (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCGTmCvKqgXd78cWHWFGwT3</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="t">Lothagam.</subfield><subfield code="d">New York : Columbia University Press, ©2003</subfield><subfield code="z">0231118708</subfield><subfield code="z">0231118716</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2001042433</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)47255324</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=92099</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Digitalia Publishing</subfield><subfield code="b">DGIT</subfield><subfield code="n">DIGCOLUP2516</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">De Gruyter</subfield><subfield code="b">DEGR</subfield><subfield code="n">9780231507608</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL - Located at the southwest corner of Lake Turkana in northern Kenya, Lothagam represents one of the most important intervals in African prehistory. In English. Print version record. Vertebrates, Fossil Kenya Lothagam Site.
