Zusammenfassung: | In History After Lacan, Teresa Brennan argues that Jacques Lacan was not an ahistorical post-structuralist. She tells the story of a social psychosis, beginning with a discussion of Lacan's neglected theory of history which argued that we are in the grip of a psychotic's era which began in the seventeenth century and climaxes in the present. By extending and elaborating on Lacan's theory, Brennan develops a general theory of modernity. Contrary to postmodern assumptions, she argues, we need a general historical explanation. An understanding of historical dynamics is essential if we are to make the connections between the outstanding facts of modernity--ethnocentrism, the relation between the sexes, and ecological catastrophe. A challenging feminist, interdisciplinary study, History After Lacan will be essential reading for social, cultural, and political theorists, historians, psychoanalysts, and literary theorists. |

A challenging feminist, interdisciplinary study, History After Lacan will be essential reading for social, cultural, and political theorists, historians, psychoanalysts, and literary theorists.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Lacan, Jacques,</subfield><subfield code="d">1901-1981</subfield><subfield code="x">Contributions in philosophy of history.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Lacan, Jacques,</subfield><subfield code="d">1901-1981.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n80022983</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Lacan, Jacques,</subfield><subfield code="d">1901-1981</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJr3v684f4qtydVVBBBkjC</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">History</subfield><subfield code="x">Philosophy.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85061223</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Feminism.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85047741</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Psychoanalysis.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85108411</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">History.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85061212</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Feminism</subfield><subfield code="0">https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D019513</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Psychoanalysis</subfield><subfield code="0">https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D011572</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">History</subfield><subfield code="0">https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D006664</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Féminisme.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Psychanalyse.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Histoire.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Histoire</subfield><subfield code="x">Philosophie.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">feminism.</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">psychoanalysis.</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">history (discipline)</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">HISTORY</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Psychoanalysis</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">History</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Feminism</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">History</subfield><subfield code="x">Philosophy</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">History</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">History after Lacan (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCFyGcmTBjGbrGprfrDw9jC</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Brennan, Teresa, 1952-</subfield><subfield code="t">History after Lacan.</subfield><subfield code="d">London ; Conclusion : time and exploitation. In History After Lacan, Teresa Brennan argues that Jacques Lacan was not an ahistorical post-structuralist.
